Around eighteen months ago, Micro Mart received complaints about a Mr Gregory Robert Homer, who had been advertising goods in our classified ads, taking monies and not always supplying the goods. After spending some time with Mr Homer to resolve the matter, it became clear that no resolution was forthcoming. With immense thanks to Wolverhampton Trading Standards, the decision was made to prosecute Mr Homer under Section 15A of the 1968 Theft Act.

Mr Homer last week entered a guilty plea to seven offences at Wolverhampton Crown Court. He has been sentenced to 80 hours of community services, ordered to attend a community/rehabilitation program, ordered to pay compensation for goods not delivered and a further £1000 towards court costs. Remaining offences are to be kept on file.

It’s extremely rare, due to the vigilant policing processes we put in place, that we experience any troubles with our classified ad service such as this. The one previous occurrence led to us spending five figures on private detective services when the police were reluctant to help us prosecute, and again, this resulted in a successful prosecution a few years’ ago.

We work extremely hard to ensure that our classifieds are a safe and secure trading environment, and will not hesitate to act if anyone abuses the service we offer.

Only 80 hours of community service - and I bet that's repairing PC's for a community center then...

But a great result anyway - and let it be said - there is no where to hide...

It's good to see you managed to nail the gentleman in question. I can appreciate how difficult it was to successfully prosecute someone in a situation like this so congratulations to you and the TSOs involved for seeing it through. It's reassuring to know that justice does prevail every now and then.

Let's hope that Gregory uses his CS time to consider his contribution to the human race. Maybe next time he'll bring a little more to the table than deception and dishonestly.

Anyway, enough preaching - congratulations to those who he ripped off. Thanks to MM, the TS and the courts it looks like you'll be getting your compensation after all!

Justice at last!

Congratulations on a job well done, by coincidence I noticed the small column at the end of last weeks classifieds with advice for buyers and potential problems, might I suggest that this is placed at the beginning of the ads and with an additional note that Micromart always prosecutes fraudsters too?

As one of those who was ripped of by Mr Homer, I have to endorse simons comment about Wolverhampton Trading Standards who kept me informed as to what was happening ( had he have not pleaded guilty I was going to give evidence against him ).

Two weeks ago I received a letter from WTS stating that he had pleaded guilty, his sentence and fines and that I was to be compensated for my loss.

This was all started of by Simon after I complained and he said they were allready looking into other complaints about the individual.

Again, we're indebted to Wolverhampton Trading Standards for so vigorously pursuing Mr Homer too. I'd also like to thank Phil Kavanagh, who has worked extremely hard on this case, and done the bulk of the work from the Micro Mart side. He too was heading off to court to testify, before Mr Homer entered his guilty plea.
