| I've managed to set up my own webserver and was wandering about what uploand and download speed is needed and about how many people could acsess my site at whatever speed, I am sure my computer can cope with it, oh and what security precautions would I need to take?

I used to run my own webserver, using Abyss webserver software. If you have a broadband connection users will be able to access your site at 256k which is your upload speed to the net, so 10 users on your site at the same time will give 256/10=25k each. Security wise, if you run any decent webserver software with upto date patches and a firewall, it will more or less protect itself. But determined hackers could probably take it down.

Depends what its used for, if it is just going to hold a few webpages with images and have very little traffic then a home web server should be fine, however if you are planning on making downloads (espically large ones) and other high bandwidth content (such as flash) available then your usual broadband net connection will not be up to it.
Hope that helps.
