Hi all, Just bought myself a g3 from ebay with osx panther installed, and Im wondering about antivirus protection, I've been using linux on and off for a while with no av, but wondered if the same was true for the mac. Do I need it in the same way windows boxes get attacked as soon as they go anywhere near an internet connection!?

The Mac's OSX is currently virus-free. Most Mac users don't even have a virus protection program installed. There's some useful info on Mac security at www.securemac.com and a free virus checker at www.clamxav.com.
The only OSX 'virus' in existence is a near-useless trojan which you can read about here: http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,63000,00.html

Norton do suppy anti-virus tools but to be honest with you at the moment they are just a costly piece of redundant software. ClamAV and Norton are only any use if you are using it as a gateway to a Windows system and then it only detects the Windows Viruses so you do not distribute them around the network.
Oh Globbits!!!
