I'm aware that in order to fold on multiple PCs on the same network, all with the same fah account it's necessary to flag each client with a different number (between 1 and 8). I was wondering if it's necessary to do the same when folding independantly on several PCs, again with the same fah account, but *not* on a network. i.e. in different physical locations? Thanks.

probably not i have my machines set up here on the same network running folding on them all and only 3 of them have different machine numbers the other 2 dont and they seem to work fine. but my network is a bit different all my machines have a real internet ip address so in theory all my machines are on there own network as well as being connected together,If that makes sense.

That's what I was hoping. I was worried that fah used the IDs at the server end to differentiate WU's that were processed in parallel by the same client ID, meaning that I could screw-up my progress if I tried. Thankfully it doesn't seem to be the case. I've nearly managed to cobble together a second PC for folding during the week whilst I'm away from home. It's a P4 at 3.3 to 3.4GHz (haven't decided yet) with 1GB RAM, I just need a small HDD. Hopefully I'll have it up & folding by Boxing Day. QMD cores here I come! (is it true that I'm more likely to get a QMD core WU with a P4?) Thanks again.

I believe it is only used to show the "Active Processors" in the stats page.
[ Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - 4 GB Corsair TwinX DDR-800 - 256 MB Palit 8600 GTS ]
[ 3x 500 GB Samsung F1 HDDs - Asus P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP ]
