Running two instances of the folding client console...

Install the client as normal. Then copy the 'folding' folder to the desktop and rename it 'folding2'. Now paste it back into your programs files. Open the folder and send a shortcut to the desktop of the FAH502-Console.exe. delete the work folder as this will contain the first version's work. Now open the client config file of the second version in notepad (client.dfg) and rename 'machineid=1' to 'machineid=2', save and exit....now when you restart the computer you will be able to run two version of the client!

This is more useful for dual cored systems to which you can set the processor affinity in task manger to run a copy each. Task manager> processes> The right click on FAH502-Console.exe and set affinity....

I have a Computer...

Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!

Actually, a slightly easier way would be to just download the FAH version you want to use from the Stanford website, copy the program into another folder (folding 1 and folding 2 from your example), then run the programs one at a time to complete the setup. Give 'folding 1' a machine ID of 1 and 'folding 2' a machine ID of 2.

This will ensure that there are no files accidentally left over from copying across that could interfere with FAH, and will get two individual WU's.

As you say, when you restart the computer, you'll be able to run two instances of FAH, and set one per processor.

An even easier way... Some kind people have made a one click install that includes two instances.

Windows 2k/XP One-Click versions without -Advmethods

These installs just like the installs listed above, but lacks the -advmethods flag. This is especially useful for sub 2ghz processors and other machines that have trouble with the -advmethods flag.

  1. Single CPU without -advmethods.
  2. Dually/HT without -advmethods
  3. Quad version without -advmethods

    Installation Instructions:
  • Download the file listed above
  • Edit both client.cfg files with NOTEPAD to your username and bigpackets answer ("yes" or "no" - default is "no").
  • Run the *.exe file.
  • The One-click will then create a directory (C:\Program Files\FAH), download the FAH console client, creates and installs FAH as a service in the registry, starts the FAH Service, and cleans up the extra download files after the install is completed.
  • Visit here if you want the dual/quad version with advmethods. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=231247
