Hi,
Been fixing pc's for more years than I care to mention but just got myself a a g3 strawberry mac, and as previous posts quickly found out I was given a iffy copy of panther. I've now got myself a a legit copy and installed it. Couple of things that immediatly confuse me, sometimes when the mac starts up I dont get the finder menu at the top and then all the apps I try to run crash. the thing that normally fixs it is if I pull the power out and drain the caps by switching the machine on a couple of times without the power in. Hey presto finder bar back (feel free to correct me with what that bar is actually called by the way). I have ordered myself a book as I clearly need a bit of training on the OS. Does anyone know why it does this. I have done component level repair on mobos and PSU's and stuff before but wondered if there was a software reason for it before I go cracking the case open (i've only just moved into a new house and my time would be better spent with a paintbrush in one hand and a cup of tea in the other instead of a screwdriver and soldering iron).
Cheers guys and girls.
