Hi the other day whilst i was on the web i noticed that a new firmware was avaliable for my 4420 cd writer. I decided that i would install this as it promised to FIX some problems. After a succesfull flash and firmware upadate of the drive iam left with a useless piece of scrap.

Now you may wonder what went wrong, i too am wondering so i asked technical support at memorex (via phone) and they informed that i should try installing a previous version of the firmware. So i contacted online tech support as instructed and explained what i needed and why. There reply was a little disconcerting, they said that firmware was unavailable. And if i didnt back it up before hand i wouldnt get it on anyway.

This back up option does not exist with the flash rom utility, so i have a busted drive all form a simple firmware upgrade.

Do i have any rights if i dont why not, memorex suck, i am not buying anything of theres again, there tech support is cack.

MEMOREX

You have my sympathy pal.
But few companies nowadays bother to answer customer complaints via e-mails etc.
And with the trendy 'Thanks for the Money, Tosh' 0870 numbers, where they keep you hanging on while they tell you how important your call is, then after half an hour cut you off, you got no chance!

As for Memorex:
I bought about 50 floppies (remember them?) for document, data and other backups etc.
They were kept in ideal conditions.

When I tried reading some about a year later, they were all corrupted. Yet even some unbranded cheap ones in the same cupboard held the data ok.

For that reason alone, I would never buy any Memorex product of any type.

Cheers.
