As Dave said and also check if there is any memory upgrade fitted and remove it. If it has more than 256MB it has been upgraded (I think)

Probably not relevant in your case but I've seen 2 old PB laptops with problems that defy reason. One would not post without the owners USB HDD attached???? The other was memory related (well thats what we put it down too) because it was completely dead untill we removed the memory upgrade the client had fitted. After booting up and refitting the memory all was ok even after stress testing.. It may have not been seated properly, but completely dead?

I purchased a cheap PB desktop last year that was quite current and it would not recognise ddr 400 memory without a bios flash

It's either the hard disk or the ram - my money's on the HDD.

Download the Ultimate Boot CD from here [url]http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/[/url]
It's an ISO file you burn to a CD and contains all the diagnostics you could want.

If you don't know the make of the HDD (or it's not one that has a specific OEM tool) use the "Drive Fitness Test".
Do the Quick Test first, then if that is OK do the long test - it takes a while...

EDIT - missed the last line about not even getting to the BIOS.
Physically remove the HDD and see if it will now boot to the BIOS.

Hi folks

I need help here if available

I have a friends laptop Packard Bell laptop easy-note G1320 that had an error loading operating system message and would not boot.

They didn't have it long 2nd-3rd hand before the above message came to the fore basically from the start.

I had an original copy of XP home and they had the ORG serial key.

As they had no data on it they asked if I could wipe the drive and re-install.

I changed the boot order to the DVD RW and proceeded to reinstall Windows.

I got to the format HDD and all's well until about 80% when the Laptop freaked and it's screen went like the matrix code with less lines involved and now it won't even boot into the BIOS.

It had already been refurbished before.

Any Idea's how to solve?
