If you can get one that's wide enough for the screen, you'll have borders at the top and bottom that you'll have to blank off, otherwise you'll see all the gubbins above or below your projected image. Still very tempting though, especially as I have a huge empty wall space in my living room, with thick, heavy curtains :)

RE: Digital projector for my room!

Well consideringmost projectors are SVGA and the one they built was XVGA doubt that would be a problem G.

I'm tempted to make a WXGA on if I can fine a 15" Widescreen TFT monitor cheap :D

RE: Digital projector for my room!
unicross (07/08/2006)
Saying that the build yer own project seems very tempting...
maybe, but i imagine the quality would never be as good.

RE: Digital projector for my room!

It certainly does! I was wondering if you could mount a CRT into a projector case, as you wouldn't need the backlight, and they're a LOT cheaper e.g. I can get a 19" CRT for £25 second hand which would have a much higher resolution. Could even be a custom media centre system build in there somewhere...

RE: Digital projector for my room!

Saying that the build yer own project seems very tempting...

RE: Digital projector for my room!

Freakshow! ive worked out that a lamp in this BenQ could last over 2 years. Then its only £100 for another 2 years use :P

RE: Digital projector for my room!

G, why not go for the LED projectors? They're around £450, not as bright, but they last for a good couple of years. Unfortuneatley you can not change the bulb and so have to pay for a new projector, but if the life expectancy is long enough, maybe it is cheaper than paying for new bulbs. (though you'd get a nice new shiny box :P)

RE: Digital projector for my room!

Great idea G!

If any of you are feeling really adventurous,
you might try building your own projector.
There is an excellent guide on Tom's hardware guide:
http://tinyurl.com/jwlto

RE: Digital projector for my room!

good choice going for a projector i have one in my room which is actually in the basement so i get an perfect picture anytime of the day. if i was going to buy a new projector i would buy a hd one got and buy yourself a copy of what hi-fi tv and video and look in the back at the hd projectors

RE: Digital projector for my room!
spike09 (05/08/2006)
I Like the Exit sign in piccie three do you often get lost in your room or is Dad a health and safety freak?
neither my room is full of "props" and stuff like that ;) Got a dummy CCTV camera in another corner :D

The projector i used in the photos above was the NEC i borrowed.
