Any news on the three most popular MM requests:

1. Forum upgrade so that it works (especially the "quoted text" and "empty message" issues).
2. Article archives available on the web site? ...
3. ... Or on a (paid for) cover disk?

Hopefully it has all happened, and I missed it!

Change Forum+Chat Software?

Hi, how about changing the forum+chat software to something thats abit more friendly with other operating systems and also saving your money, all you need to do is get a linux server which are cheaper than windows servers. Use PHPBB as the forum board and use a IRC plugin which takes care of the online chat. if you need help organizing this, Im more than willing to help

Hi MicroMart Admins/Readers, Love the site and forum, been a long time reader just hadnt got around to coming on the website and posting on the forums, but i had an idea, how about some sort of MicroMart chat channel?

I can setup a MicroMart IRC Channel if enough people think its a good idea? Post your views on it and I hope we can sort it :)

I always go to the forums via the homepage of Micromart, and I've often wondered if the website is sort of dead or at least sleeping with someone occasionaly giving it a shove to wake it.
The featured article is always very old and the news has been the same since, well I can't remember when it last looked different, but it certainly isn't "The very latest happinings in the IT world brought direct to your desktop, courtsey of Micro Mart's regularly updated news reports" as stated when clicked upon.
Today when I first logged on, the front page's featured article was about the Governments Home Computer Initiative, which was killed off by the government two years ago.
I refreshed the page and came across the latest review for Iolo's System Mechanic 6, which is now actually at version 7.
A few more refreshes just recycles old articles and there is nothing new.
I know the answer will be down to the few numbers of people that actually put Micromart together, and they do a great job with the magazine.
However isn't time that someone, Simon maybe, suggested to Dennis publishing that some extra resources were found to update the magazines own website and keep it updated, like most magazines do?

Is it just me, or is the HUGE PCWorld pop up driving anyone *else* nuts? It was bearable on the from page of the MM website, but it appears to be following me around the forum as well! Every thread I click on requires me to click "OK" to the MS-IE pop-up blocker, when it tells me it's done its job and blocked it another time!

Browing with firefox

Is it just firefox, When I'm on the website the Kaspersky advert is obscuring some of the text.
I'd had high hopes a magazine that always promotes firefox could get it's own website in order!
No I can't you internet explorer, as following your articles I've ditched windows for Linux.

Spam / popups... it's archaic and rude!

Err so is this a new thing or is it because FireFox was silently blocking my popups?

Im using Opera at the moment on my laptop (long story: mozilla hates me because I tried to fix it ;)) and EVERY page I load comes up with a popup blocked message.

I cant use the forums under IE now because I have the popup blocker turned off (there is a reason) and it sends me a popup every page I visit...

I dont understand why this spam got incorporated again :( popups went out of fashion years ago and tend to be the territory of spam-domains, link sites and porn......... the way I see it:
1) 99% of people have popup blockers and so wont see it anyway rendering it useless
2) The 1% w/o popups blocked just cannot access the forums with the amount of spam it generates - so you lose a customer - rendering it harmful

Please, please spare my peripheral vision (the little "blocked" icon is just at the top right ofthe screen :P), get rid of the popups! :)

MM Forum Server in Trouble ?

During 'hot spells' I have noticed MM Forum server increased problems, with login problem reports etc. Today, it's started re-gurgitating old threads as if created today, 19th June 2008.
If the server is suffering, how are the folk 'on the roof'' ?

Is it my imagination, but have posted login etc problems gone up with today's rise in temperature. My conservatively over-clocked [A] rig is coping well but its temperatures are up, whilst my Ubuntu Linux Weather Report for Heathrow suggests that there's a heat wave in London. Human beings may be able to cope, but what about the Forum Server ? :w00t:
Edit PS - I noticed the same about a month ago, when temperatures were up. ;)

News Links never updated

I like your site and often promote it in other forums to people who want technical advice.

But I notice whenever I visit the site the "News Links" section in the middle if the home page ALWAYS says the same thing (it has said the same thing for ages).

For instance the top items says "Apple And Creative Kiss And Make Up" which has been there for as long as I can remember.

If this is never changed then it will make your site look un-maintained and discourage people from coming back to see what is "new".

I think I've seen mention of this before, but this niggles me a bit.
When ever I login, the time at the bottom of the page is an hour behind the real time.
So this post will be posted at 00.03 instead of 01.03.
If I clear Firefoxes cache the time will correct itself, until tomorrow. Any ideas why?
Also my Posts show 436, yet my Visits are lower at 330, how can this be?

Adding MicroMart to favorites

I wanted to add your Micro Mart home page to my favorites (your main home page not the forum home page or any other home page).

But the only text that appeared on my favorites was "Home", with a small icon to the left (hardly readable) which said "micro mart" (in very small text)

I may be worth changing your home page title to "Micro Mart - Home" to make it stand out better when on the favorites.

Hi All,

I don't use Windows IE, and just lately I've noticed that my browsers of choice have now got even more limited functionality on these forums.

As an example i'm no longer able to use the IFCode Shortcuts to the left of the message screen when posting replies.

This is irrespective of which operating system or browser I'm using.

Of course i'm only assuming that Windows IE works with the forums.

It could of course be a general glitch.

I've been an avid reader for several years and now have a sizeable collection of magazines. One of the most annoying things is knowing that I've read an article/review on a certain subject that would now be very handy but having no other option other than manually looking through every mag - typically the one I'm looking for hasn't been put in one of the usual piles... Having a database of all previous articles which lists which issues the articles were in would be extremely useful! Please!!!

I've used the [quote][/quote] tag on a few postings now, and none of them work properly. Is this a bug with the software? I've even seen it with other people posting messages too.

Tested it on the following browsers just to be sure:

* Firefox 2 - doesn't work
* Opera 9.2 - doesn't work
* IE6 - doesn't work
* Netscape 9 - doesn't work
* Konqueror 3.5 - doesn't work

It's just dawned on me what's missing from this forum that makes others easier to follow in terms of problems and solution finding.

Many people come here with a problem and most find a satisfactory resolution, but nobody ever goes back and edits the sub-heading of their post with one simple word.

If it could be made an adopted standard to replace or append a topic sub-heading with the word 'RESOLVED' in capital letters, solutions would be easier to find without the possible inconvenience of having to trawl through pages of posts to find that no resolution has yet been found.

I'm not saying that people wouldn't necessarily learn something from reading all of the relevant posts, but it would simplify and speed up the process of resolution finding.

Is this a task that could be taken on (or at least helped along) by the forum moderators?

Login details are being transmitted insecurely aren't they?

Screen shot attached shows that the bar in the top isn't yellow, which indicates a secure connection.

Either I am totally misunderstanding the whole way of how it works (probable) or we are not a very secure place.

Hi, Just tried using the contact telephone number listed on the site and it now seems to be dead. You are using those awful national rate numbers according to the Dennis publishing site.

Is it time for a update of the site as the inforation is useless as it is.

ive been buying micromart for a while now,since ive been reading it my mrs has seen a vast change in me.i can now multitask(turn tv over & read paper)i can talk to the assistants in pc world with a smug idiot grin because i know more than them,and i can fix computery things and know what goes where.im even starting my first build which if you knew me you would think it would be like a chimp working at microsoft(bill gates?)so fantastic work micromart magazine and forums,through your excellent advice i am a now reasonably intelligent hgv driver,u dont get many of those to the pound

Formatting buttons not working

is it just me, or are none of the formatting buttons (size, alignment, bold, italic, underline, quote etc) not working in any way shape or form?

I cannot seem to find a 'BROWSE' function in the classifieds.

COuld it be that there really is no option to browse the classified ads categories and just have alook at the ads. The search thing is all fine and well but it is about as practical as a kick in the teeth. If people can't spell or you don't pick the right keywords, or if your search engine is poor...then we don't get what we are looking for in the results even when that item might actually be in an ad on there!!!

Can someone either point me to where the 'Browse Ad Categories' link is or

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make it like every other classifieds listing or ads listing I have ever seen MM and make the categories browsable!!!
