I use several computers in my house and they all keep me logged in (I have had 2 seperate times when it has logged me out a few times) but other than that all ok for me.

I only have 1 .micromart.co.uk cookie on this browser (Safari on iMac).

I can click through my control panel to change my settings, but as soon as I click on, for example, 'Recent Posts' I am logged out.

I have made no changes to Safari at all, it is as it comes in the box (as it were) with the iMac.

Perhaps it is the point where the forum tries to create all these cookies that it fails and logs me out?

Would be interesting if someone could reset my message settings (effectively removing my entire 'read message' history).

This has been a recurring problem, but I've no idea whether it's an InstantForum.NET problem or just this Forum.

It is the only site I know of which keeps not only the usual cookies, but one for every topic and forum area you've visited here too.
These take the form of

IF_TopicsReadnnn

IF_ForumsReadnnn

Where nnn is a tag for that particular topic/post or forum group

These cookies are not removed when you log out either; and it appears that there is some sort of cookie limit which when hit produces the failed login.

I would guess that it would be a fairly easy thing to fix once proven.

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago, wouldn't keep me logged in beyond one page. I would login (even tried with remeber me), it would log me in, show me logged in, but after I went to another page or tried to post it would ask me to login again.

I just used cookie manager extension in firefox to delete all the forum.micromart.co.uk cookies and it seemed to solve the problem.

So here I am on an iMac, using Safari - just to see if things have changed much.
And the answer is 'no'. First click after logging in, appears to log me out (though I get to see my name in the members list down the bottom).

As my HDD died, I'm in a position to test the forum on a completely clean install. I am on Windows XP, with all the updates added, using IE7. I have installed one piece of non-microsoft, non-hardware related software - PC Tools Firewall Plus.

The forums do not keep me logged in. :crazy:

If it is the firewall, then I apologise (though this is the only forum that suffers from this problem). If not, then I stand by my comment that it undermines the excellent work at Micromart. :crying:

thats true, and it could have been put allot better lol, but if the forums are working ok on most computers it would indicate there is a common issue stopping the others from working possibly i am only guessing here :P

people with the problems have you changed the privacy settings from default? - check if your browser is letting you use cookies correctly

I use Opera and here is what has been happening to me for a week or more.
I log into the site, add my user name & password and click log in.
Then I click on posts, recent posts and it logs me out, If I click on recent posts again I can read them even though I am logged out.
If I click on reply, I get logged out and have to log in again.
So the origonal poster is not the only one who has problems with this site.
This happens whether I am using Xp or Linux, perhaps it is to do with the Opera browser.

:crazy: i have not had any issues like this :P so far i have used the forum with

ubuntu 7.10 -> Firefox (laptop)
windows XP pro->Firefox x2 (desktop and laptop)
windows XP pro -> IE x3 (desktop, laptop and uni desktops)
windows vista business -> Firefox (desktop)
windows vista business ->IE (desktop)

the ubuntu does not have any virus scanners etc on, the 2 firefox xp installs and vista installs have pctools firewall on with AVG and spyboot, the last IE XP has some uni crap on lol (i cant see what it is but assume its a big brand one).

I have had this problem for ages, I think I have found a way around it but havent
bothered to test it properly. I find it happens if I have multiple tabs open of MM
forum threads etc. If I close all but the one I have replied to then it will then log in.

I dont have auto login on

Again, I've also had this problem using Firefox + Vista. (Not linked to a browser then. Opera, IE and firefox....:) )

For me it was I could log in. But everytime I tried to post a reply it would log me out with an error.

However a week later problem disappeared....Weird, maybe something changed on my PC?

I sometimes get logged out when trying to reply to a post. Don't know why it happens. Things will be ok for weeks, and then it will happen every time for a few days, and then go back to being fine :unsure: Weird...

I seemed to feel it was IE and cookie problems, although I have no evidence to support this. I just like to hate IE. :D

The most anoying problem with the forums is when you try to post a quoted reply and the software tells you to add some content. It seems to ignore the 300 words which are right underneath the quoted text..:angry:

Is there a common factor on the machines you've tried -- perhaps the same security software or something? It's a tough one, as absolutely no-one else is having the same problems. The forum software has its quirks, but by and large it works fine. It's also free, of course, and in no way included as part of the cover price of the magazine.

I've had to log in 4 times to reply to this. At the same time busy with other things, so have not managed to keep my more verbose (and clear?) reply available to paste again.

Short version: read my posts, i never said i cant log in.
and i cant be bothered to continue the fight right now to keep up my attempts to highlight this problem, as the problem stops me bringing it to anyones attention.

advice on cookies sounds like the best bet assuming you are clicking the remember me button (i didn't for a while and got a little :angry: lol) also check that programs such as ccleaner are not removing them

Make sure your browser security settings allow for cookies, or it could be due to highly-paranoid security software. Have you tried FireFox with IE Tabs for the chatroom? Most members report a high-sucess rate with it - I've used it in that combination for a while. A little hassle, yes, but not much. It takes a second or two longer. It might also work for the forum (I personally have no issues and I'm using FireFox, which is always up-to-date)

If I log in, then I usually get logged out when I click on the thread, or when I click on Reply.
There was a period at the end of last year when I managed to remain logged in for several weeks at a time!

I wish to drum up a little noise regarding these issues, and not sweep them away under the rug. I hope to be a small part in instigating some change for the better.

Like I said I had the login problem just like you but the "remember me" fixed it for me!

If i'm telling you to suck eggs tell me but could it be a cookie problem?? I know you have tried different machines but maybe you have just been unlucky with this forum.

Do you use other forums?

I love the way you take it so personally. Let me rephrase that. I admire you for the stance you are taking ([i]EDIT: this is meant as a compliment[/i])

I was hoping that you might understand from my initial post "If have tried this one various browsers and machines. " (on your way correcting my typo), and that I have been a forum member and poster for a few years, that I understand how "remember me" forum boxes are supposed to work.

I am bashing the software, not the users of it. I feel I have a right to that. If I don't, then I will take my custom elsewhere.

EDIT: To exapand on the last line: These forums are a major part in my magazine subscription. If I can't have the forum, then I wont buy the magazine.

The action that *always* logs me out, is clicking on 'Recent Posts' -> 'Posts added today'.
Other times I can stay logged in for a few minutes, sometimes enough to read 2 whole threads.

But I am finding that I am visiting these forums less and less. It is just too much hassle.

Logging in after typing a post (when not not logged in) may be your problem.

4. Read posts (but not in the way set up in my options, because I am not logged in).
5. Oooh look, funny post from bigdaddy, Click Reply.
6. [login]
7. Write this post.
8. Click on submit button to post message. Receive error message that my message contains no content.
9. Paste content into notepad.
10. Reselect content in notepad. Paste it into fourm message box.
11. Post reply. Receive error message that my message contains no content.
12. Repeat step 10.
13. Post reply. Oh I'm not logged in.
14. Login....

Sometime this year the micro mart forums stopped being able to remember that I am supposedly logged in.

If have tried this one various browsers and machines.

It is making these forums unusable.
