That is basically the latest Puppy v4 with drivers for the Asus and OpenOffice installed.

You can download it from - http://puppylinux.org/downloads/puplets/dingoplus

Why not grab the iso (its a live cd naturally) and give it a try on your desktop. Its worth remembering that you could even install Dingoplus simply to a USB drive and boot the Asus from it as and when you want, even if you don't fully install it to the Asus.

Cheers,
vfm

RE: Asus Eee

feck forgot about congifuring WiFi :s

hmmm gonna pick one up this afternoon i think

thanks for all the help btw :)

RE: Asus Eee

I'll be sat in J.D. Wetherspoons browsing the forums on mine at some point tomorrow, pint of Guinness in hand. :D

I'm still using my eeepc with a default, but slightly tweaked, Xandros installation.
In all honesty, it does exactly what it's supposed to perfectly well, so I've seen little point in changing.

If I were going to change, it would be to Mandriva 2008.1, which supports all of the eee hardware without any fuss. I've also seen an Ubuntu installation on a work colleagues eee which worked quite well, though he did confess that it took a bit of setting up. Ubuntu would never be my first choice, but each to their own.

RE: Asus Eee
SirTom909 (14/08/2008)
thanks for the response guys, appreciate it.

Gonna go with FreeBSD 7.0 and pop KDE on top of it :)
should work fine if you can integrate the Madwifi Hal from ticket 1192

RE: Asus Eee

Expansys are doing the 4gb for £159.99 plus delivery black or white.

only from 1100 to 1500 today though.

RE: Asus Eee

As Planeman said that is the 4Gb one, includes VAT, but not delivery.

RE: Asus Eee

Misco DO have it at £164.49

RE: Asus Eee
wyliecoyoteuk (14/08/2008)
misco are selling it @ £164
:)
£193 including VAT.

And the on eBuyer is the 2Gb one.

You both got my hopes up:hehe:

RE: Asus Eee
wyliecoyoteuk (14/08/2008)
misco are selling it @ £164
:)
Fiver cheaper at Ebuyer and free delivery as well.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141743

RE: Asus Eee

misco are selling it @ £164
:)

RE: Asus Eee

thanks for the response guys, appreciate it.

Gonna go with FreeBSD 7.0 and pop KDE on top of it :)

RE: Asus Eee
SirTom909 (14/08/2008)
im not touching Ubuntu btw :)
Why not?
Ubuntu has two good options for the 701, eeeXubuntu and Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

RE: Asus Eee

mine has windows XP on so anything thats around the same/similar spec as that?

RE: Asus Eee

Mandriva 2008.1
sidux Erebos
Debian Lenny
Slax
slitaz
Elive
Puppy
Tigerpuppy with flashy Compiz Fusion effects
Linux Mint

huge choice available.

Asus Eee

evening all,

quick question. im thinking of getting a 701 and was wondering if there are any other distros that will run well on the system, i was thinking SuSE however its a tad big for a 4GB HDD. any suggestions?

im not touching Ubuntu btw :)
