Mind you, that's a general problem for Ubuntu, with Bug Report solutions being relentlessly pursued for sometimes quite historic platforms, steadfastly ignoring more popular platform problems. (OK, OK things have to start somewhere, and volunteer fixers sometimes simply can't afford to buy 'more popular' hardware.) :)
As usual when populating a new database, choosing the best initial search fields will be the key to success, but adopting the inverse of the historic view, I guess that 'by popular distro' might be best, but I'm not sure whether it oughtn't to include package exception comments. ;)
So, for example :
Ubuntu 8.04.1 and Mint5 - [A] and rigs of sig - except for Inkblot and ACIDrip
Mint 4 - [A] and rigs, including ACIDrip, but excluding Inkblot, with 'lm sensor' limitations.

Is this what was envisaged ? :D

RE: List of Hardware that works with Linux

If Simon is busy I can always log in as "Super Mod", but I'll have to put my underpants on outside my trousers

No, no a million times NO.:P

Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA
Geforce 8600GTS
Tevion DVB-T TV card
Mustek Bearpaw 2448TA scanner
Samsung 300N colour laser printer.

A few problems setting up the scanner, but the Ubuntu forums provided the solution.

RE: List of Hardware that works with Linux

HP DC7600 - Intel S775
Chipset: 945G ICH7
Graphics: 945G
Sound: 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller
NIC: Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit

HP DC7700 - Intel S775 (2.6.24 reqd)
Chipset: Q965 ICH8
Graphics: Q965
Sound: 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller
NIC: 82566DM Gigabit

AMD S939
Chipset: NForce3
Graphics : AGP RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series]
Sound: nForce3 AC'97 Audio Controller
NIC: Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit

AMD SOA
PC-Chips M848A
Chipset: SiS748/963L
Graphics : AGP RV350 AS [Radeon 9550]
Sound: SiS AC'97 Sound Controller
NIC: ‎SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet

All-in-one: Epson RX420
Laser: Samsung ML1710

RE: List of Hardware that works with Linux
malc_wright (26/09/2008)
However, I'm not sure that 'Sig' contents come up in searches.
Lol, really? :hehe:

Anyway, you can put the KN8 SLI in the list of working devices. Lan found 100% of the time. Fedora Core 7, and Open SuSE 10.1 installed on the fake RAID 0 array, without any user intervention, something other distros at the time failed with - not found what modern distros make of it, but will check later.

EN7600GT: Most distros seem to think the max resolution is 1024 x 768 prior to installing proprietry drivers. Did not work with PCLinux OS and Mandriva (last years versions), everything was way too dark.

Palit 8800GT 512: Most distros seem to think the max resolution is 1024 x 768 prior to installing proprietry drivers. Will revisit the older versions of PCLinux OS and Mandrake (and find the proper distro version while I'm at it) later on today, if I find the Live disks.

D-Link DWL-G510 (Ver C2 F/W 5) PCI WiFi card: Bit of a weird one, works OK, but some distros struggle with WPA2 PSK. RT61 Chipset btw.

D-Link-G122 (Ver C1 F/W 3) USB WiFi dongle: Works. Supports monitor mode when configured properly. RT61 Chipset, though one distro found and configured it as RT71 ?!

Hope this is the kind of info you are after, if not I'll go away :D If so, I'll continue mesing around later and post my findings.

RE: List of Hardware that works with Linux

I think it's a great idea, look at me new sig :)

RE: List of Hardware that works with Linux

Hi Jon,

Anything you've found that works with Linux is relevant, for too long Forums have only seen the 'hardware y doesn't work'. I have a few 'new' distros I have downloaded, and some older ones (and I don't mind messing with a live to recap).

I mainly test with a live distro and take it from there (installing if working fully).
