CD burning in XP.

Another vote for buying a seperate CD burning package, especially as a good edition of Nero can be picked up for around a tenner from the magazine. The CD burning in XP drives me potty it's so slow and non-descriptive. I personally use WinOnCD 5 now, although that's started giving me error messages. Bah!

I use Nero, its great for all types of burning, but I would avoid InCD if I were you. Since Win95 upto XP its been nothing but trouble, taking valuable resources and crashing alot.

Totally agree with Ian windows XP CDRW qualities are somewhat limited. If i was you i would stick to a recognised software package

As with many functions within Windows XP, the CD writing capabilities work well enough for many people, but they are somewhat basic. If you're happy with XP's built in cd writing, then use it by all means. I also use Nero 5.5 with latest updates and it works just as well on XP (home) as it did on 98SE. No modification needed to CD-Rewriter drive at all.

Disable CD-RW on the drive itself, within the drives properties, then install your chosen CD-RW software. I've done this and use Nero without any problems.

As far as I know, it does support the 'Mount Ranier' standard (which builds packet writing capability into the OS). You do need to have a CD-RW drive that supports the standard for it to work though - more info can be had from here.

As for adding files to a CDR, the answer is yes you can, as long as you don't write-protect the disc after adding files (just close the session). XP shouldn't overwrite files previously saved on CDRW though - your settings may be incorrect for that.

I have been told that XP supports packet writing to CDRWs. Is this true? Is it therefore not necessary to install, say, InCD by Nero?

Problem is that I cannot save a file to a CDRW without XP overwriting files previously saved. Is it also possible to periodically add files to a CDR without previous ones being overwritten?
