However (and you knew this was coming, didn't you ?!) I would also say this:-

One; Coverage.

The point you raised, for example, in defence of your employers regarding the financial viability of converting an exchange for "3 people" to "download and play games" is probably accurate, but consider this. BT are making big claims about the rate of takeup and the ever-expanding coverage. We see jazzy TV advertisements encouraging people to "get into the fast lane" when in fact, the fast lane is unavailable!

I completely agree with your point, but am simply offering an explanation as to why there has been criticism levelled at BT in the first place.

Two; Cost.

I don't think £30.00 per month is too much. I pay £15.99 for BT Internet (ISDN) and would gladly pay double for 8 times the speed increase! In terms of ratios, ADSL offers four times the value for money at £30.00!!! See (1) for some elucidation as to my current predicament!

Three; Timescales.

This is BT's fault in that it should educate people better so that they are made aware of what is involved. Being in IT myself, some people are convinced that the most complex thing in a computer is the "On" button! These are the people who cause our technical lines the most hassle!

Four; Download Speed.

See (3) re: education!

Five; Service Levels

See (3) re: education!

In summary, well said!

Regards

Lecutus88

pc business and price

Buy all your computer items from www.pcsolutionsltd.co.uk
It is were I get all my items from, good cross reference

pc business and price

i wouldnt touch a recovery disk at all m8

they dont have most of the nececary files needed or windows cant find them anyway when you try to install new things

pc business and price

Hi, ive been reading this with interest as i build the odd PC for work collegues once in a while, im just wondering do most people that build pcs buy a complete copy of windows each time they make one, by that i mean the productid manual and media, and not do these recovery disk things pb, tiny and companies like that are so fond of, if not then how do you buy the operating system?

Regards
Dale scriven

pc business and price

The K6-2 500 isn't the greatest gaming option out there, but as a general purpose home/office/starter machine it's ideal. I wanted to use nothing but the best quality components. Because I'd seen the shoddy kind of software modems and stuff in high street PC's. BUT most people dont want it. They only care about the price. Many people have come to me and said I've got £XXX to spend and want 'this' for it. So I end up useing £10 modems instead of Diamond's etc. I do explain it thou.

As for warrenty I offer em a year on the new stuff and 90 days on the second hand gear. I've only had one hard drive go wrong (brand new seagate) after a month and I got a replacment from ebuyer who I got it off. So it cost me about £4 postage from me profit.

Generally I stear clear of generic equipment. I will only use cheap modems. Always use Crucial RAM in new PC's. ECS K7s5a mobos are fine. I keep useing em and get no probs. Like to use the Epox 8KHA+ for better PC's but generally find people would rather spend less cash. Get more and more orders in and things look quite good but I really need a proper job as my savings are going down down down and I have to get a better PC than a friend of mine cause hes driving me mad with his boasting.....

pc business and price

well i was thinking of trawling sites for the best price/stability i could get

thanx for feedbak

pc business and price

About £250 - £300 or so for the first box (a good basic system) , but the warranty is a little on the thin side at 30 days. I'd go for 90 if it's feasible to do so (improve your customers' confidence in the product) and maybe offer some upgrade options (CDRW, better graphics card etc). The spec for box 1 is virtually the same as what we have for the majority of our student classroom machines (K6-2 500's but with 128MB RAM) and they are good for most things except maybe running the latest games. The second one should appeal to the gaming/experienced user market, so £700 - £800 would be realistic. Maybe go for 256MB of RAM though - that's the standard spec for all the new boxes we get at our place these days, and nearly all 'power users' that I know have that much in their machines. What brands of mobo are you thinking of by the way? We use mainly Epox and Soltek boards in our Duron and PIII systems, and they've proved to be stable and reliable since purchase.

GM

pc business and price

hiya peeps

looking seriously into starting up an e business as a hobby kinda thing to see if it takes off or not

just looking for a few pointers

whast good and whats not on both a website and a comp business.

also what would you find a reasonable price to pay for (motherboard will b second user but tested thouroughly)

500mhz
64mb ram
6gb hdd
15 monitor
sound speakers kb mouse etc
56k modem
cdrom and floppy drive
win 98 se or linux

and

1.3 ghz athlon 266fsb
128mb ram
30 gb hdd
dvd drive
17 monitor

origional win98 se or linux

and is a 30 warantee enough to offer on a machine

a m8 of mine got me thinking the other day with this idea

usefull comments only pls tho

(ill list the prices i was thinking off nxt week to compare)
