Highlights: International Football on a cartridge, and a conversion of Sega's 'Power Drift' on tape.

Sega Mega Drive. Highlights: Everything. Apart from the obvious stuff like Sonic, Jungle Strike, Street Fighter 2, Madden, NHL etc, there was also renting games for £2 from Select Video, playing stuff like James Pond II, Kid Chameleon, Streets of Rage, etc.

A Sega Saturn. Messed up a bit there. Highlights, however: Sega Rally, Worldwide Soccer, Manx TT. The first Tomb Raider was one of the better conversions too.

Roundabout this time I got my first PC too, a Pentium 166 MMX, with 16MB RAM, a 2.1GB hard drive, a 16x CD-ROM drive (that mattered apparently) and 1MB S3 Trio graphics. I think it was about 2 weeks later they brought the Pentium 2 out? I kicked myself, but we didn't know anything about computers at the time so never mind. It later received a 4MB 3DFX Voodoo and a second 2.1GB hard drive anyway. Highlights: Championship Manager 97/98 to 99/00, Carmageddon, GTA, C&C Red Alert.

I also bought an N64 second-hand, with Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, ISS 64. Goldeneye was simply immense in multiplayer. I then got myself a second-hand PS1 and succumbed to the likes of Tony Hawk, ISS Pro Evolution 2 and Gran Turismo (the game that will forever seal my Sony loyalty? Probably).

And then in 2001 I got this 'beast', or at least at the time it was. A Pentium 4 1.7GHz with 512MB RAM, a 60GB hard drive and a 64MB GeForce 3. I have never used something that felt so powerful when you consider I'd gone from a P166. It's still actually pretty useful now even coming to the end of its lifespan, which is not something I could say about the 166 when it was being replaced. It'll run Pro Evolution Soccer 6 in decent enough detail and speed , but ToCA Race Driver 3 is a bit of a slideshow experience.

I've also owned a PS2, which I haven't even turned on for over a year now, but highlights on that are the obvious ones; Pro Evolution Soccer, the GTA series, Gran Turismo...

On a side note, I've only recently dabbled with overclocking. I've got a (inherited spare so not worth mentioning) P3 450 running at 504MHz by changing the FSB to 112! :D I'd have gone for 133 and 600MHz but the RAM's PC100, and the computer has about 3 months left with me before this one replaces it upstairs, and it goes somewhere else.

So there's my computing history...Can't say I knew what I was doing with the C64, I was only about 7/8, but otherwise I've probably been influenced as a console user as even now I don't tend to bother with 'traditional' PC games like FPS shooters. Give me a good Football Manager or Age of Empires instead!

RE: Evolving through the ages....

A piece of computing history none the less!

RE: Evolving through the ages....

And i paid a whacking £400 for it and £30 for an extra controller plus a few games at 40 quid a pop....:w00t:

At the time the choice was, 3DO, Phillips CDi, and PS1....

And i picked the turkey lol....

Oh well....

Viva....;)

RE: Evolving through the ages....

I looked up the 3DO. It has a 12.5Mhz ARM processor. My Acorn A3000 has a 4Mhz ARM Processor (although no FPU). I didn't realise that it was so 'pants'.

RE: Evolving through the ages....

I forgot to add the Dreamcast, bought it for coppers of a mate with games, have'nt got it any more :(

I loved the Sonic adventure 1 and 2 games the best, completed them both....

Viva....;)

RE: Evolving through the ages....

The 3DO. I'd forgotton about that. It was one of those dream consoles which kept getting put back and back.

It used an ARM processors if I remember rightly.
