It's totally free and is a descendant of the original ScreamTracker software developed for writing 8-bit music for the early PC demo scene back in 1990(ish).

Schismtracker supports 8-bit and/or 16-bit sound files, up to 64 channel polyphony, and a whole host of other goodies. You can find ready-written 'chip' tracks and plenty of other music for it by looking on the Mod Archive website here... Welcome to the forum (from me that is).

Music isn't my thing but I do remember the old Acorn Archimedes has an 8-bit logarithmic sound chip that offered so much but never quite produced enough. Still, it was my first experience of samped music coming form a computer (Take me down to the Paradice City ...)

RE: 8-bit Music

[quote][b]FreakShow! It's pretty funky if you like the SID chip. It's given rise to a whole new load of metal called SID Metal, and Machinae Supremacy are one of the bands at the forefront of it. I think they're fairly expensive though. :)

RE: 8-bit Music

@ stacy

Hi Stacy and welcome to the forum - ignore 10p to follow, most of the rest of us are friendly, if slightly odd.
(Incidentally, you're not really Sarah of the Dead's Mum are you? - forum joke, ask her about it)

@10p - check a few facts out before you write pointless insults - like her blog and the fact that she is one of MM's and Den of Geek's occasional freelancers.

RE: 8-bit Music

I haven't made any myself, but I do like listening to it. I've been making music on it with Cynthcart for a while now. Has anyone on the MM forums ever made some 8-bit music? I'm tempted to move on to some Game Boy chip tunes pretty soon, however tracking down a legit LSDJ cart is pretty impossible, phooey :hehe:
