Also getting into windows with a perminently cooked card makes the bsod more likely.

So riva tuner can exploit the extra voltage defaulted in the card to get it through windows boot for higher clocks, obviously.

Where clocked settings can be saved and enabled as required for nasty apps.

I have 4 saved clocked settings: Default, Cookability, maximum extreme.:P and under clocked for web browsing, save energy.

Also riva has a goodly trick where you can clock the core and shaders seperately which can work very well.
EDIT: You can also set the fan speed in riva.
On max extreme the fan jumps to 100%.
Also for safer overclocking I always custom thermo paste my cards. The manufacturers do rather a shabby job.
DOUBLE EDIT: Running the likes of ATi tool and riva or having run one or the other on the same system at different times is a big no no. You must make sure your system has only one overclocking tool on it and that all traces of another have been removed.

RE: X1900XT Bios flashing

Flashing might give you the advantage of raising the GPU voltage slightly, but in reality, this only makes a few percent difference. It's measurable but almost certainly not noticeable. There is also the small associated risk of borking the card. It's really not worth it IMHO when software exists that'll get you within a gnat's of the same performance. Add the benefit of the ATT tweaks on top of this and it's almost a no-brainer really. :)

Cheers, Slipstreem.

RE: X1900XT Bios flashing

Cheers Slipstreem, I have used your tweaks for my old x1950pro with good results and will do the same for this one, The reason i asked about flashing is because the card is the same as an XTX just with a different bios, I have read a few guides online regarding my card & flashing is a very popular topic.(Not the long rain mac variety)

warm regards

RE: X1900XT Bios flashing

Flashing it won't make it perform any better than can be achieved by following my ATI Tray Tools guide. See link below sig. The settings given will make it outrun a flashed card without the additional ATT tweaks, if you see what I mean. :)

Cheers, Slipstreem.

X1900XT Bios flashing

Hello, Before i upgrade the graphics cards on my sig rigs i would like to overclock my X1900XT to XTX levels, Its a game old card but is struggling slightly in some of my games which im convinced puts me at a disadvantage in online games(or my crapness does).

Has anyone here flashed an ATI bios successfully or is it more trouble than its worth?

warm regards
