Single 2gb stick arrived today.... fsb is 300 vcore is stock .... will keep pushing fsb let you know how it goes

Will give it a go, ordered correct ram so again will check when it arrives.... should be able to run 3gs without upping vcore [fingers crossed!]

then sky is the limit .....

As usual I can't find the manual when I need it :D
I think unlinked will set the ram at 400, which is what we don't want.

Link them, set the ratio to 1:1 then try an FSB of 300.
Look at the figure that the BIOS wants to set for the ram, it should be 300.

Try setting the first one to "Unlinked", the second one to "Auto" and hopefully the Memory Freq. option may allow you to type in a speed to run the RAM at. Try "333" and see if that helps. I've never played with a motherboard where you can unlink the RAM personally, so I'm only guessing. :)

In bios you have

FSB Memory Clock mode [Auto Linked Unlinked]

FSB Memory Ratio [Auto 1:1 5:4 3:2 Sync Mode]

Memory Freq....

No setting for altering ram voltage

Quite prepared to get correct ram, I can use this stuff in another rig anyway so .... show me what I need :-)

Going to drop vcore and FSB until new ram just to be on the safe side then try again

Let's at least try to get the memory you already have working properly. What options do you have in the BIOS regarding memory dividers or memory speed and what are they set to now? :)

If you can find a setting to put the memory divider at 1:1, then it should only be running as DDR640 for a core speed of 3.2GHz. I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if you've done this already, but what does CPU-Z say on the Memory tab? :)

Ooh! That's a good point! I wonder if the existing RAM might be happier if Mr Green can find a way of slowing it down? It might allow tighter timings too. :)

The patriot ram requires 2.2v to run at 400Mhz...But according to cpu-z it will also run at...(If I remember correctly).

266MHz @ 1.8V

333Mhz @ 1.8v

500MHz @ 2.3V

I have in my desktop but again I think its 2.1v .... please if you could point me in the right direction I do no mind ordering a stick just to try it.... I have never liked upping the volts of my cores but it was something I wanted to try on a cheap set up

It maybe the ram thats causing the problem, and I want to fix it :-)

Whilst it's true to say that there is a difference between C2D processors, it doesn't seem to be all that wide in reality. It really should be making at least 3GHz on stock Vcore unless it happens to be worse than any other E2180 I've ever seen documented. To give you an example of what can be done with a CPU with the same core electrically, my E4300 runs happily 24/7 [b]under[/b]volted to 1.28Volts.

Look elsewhere for the root of the problem. Although raising Vcore fixes the problem, I don't believe that it's the true root of it. As Dave says, the memory you're using is totally unsuitable for that mobo. It may be the cause, but it's impossible to know for sure without trying something more suitable. I hope you have something else laying around so you can try it without spending out any more cash. :)

Well I could not get much past 2.3 on stock volts kept failing to boot, maybe its the ram? should I try and get some that matches mobo [1.8v] ;-( 1.4vcore will get me 3 gig no problem

Maybe its just some chips clock better than others

Running very near 3.3 at 1.5vore ouch!

E2180 + GA-73PVM-S2 will run all day at 3.1Ghz with stock voltages, I've done it loads of times.
Seems pointless over volting for 0.1Ghz.

No need to touch the CPU settings, the defaults are speedstep and thermal throttling on, which is what you want.

EDIT - The Patriot ram you have chosen looks like it needs 2.2v and the motherboard won't allow you to change the voltage from stock 1.8v.
There is a warning about this in the C2D motherboard sticky.

tried to find in add remove enable but its not in home ;-(

I have disabled EIST so .... she is cooking at the moment at 3.2... cpuz still shows 1900 grrrr!!

OK, its called "CPU Thermal Monitor 2" and its the one above the EIST setting in the bios. Make sure it is enabled.

I realise you could have been joking when you said it was EIST but thought we'd better be safe than sorry. :)

EIST is not (usually) Thermal Throttling, its just Speedstep which is a different thing. Perhaps they are combined into one on your mobo? I'll grab a copy of your manual and check. But until I do I wouldn't suggest raising your vcore any higher.

Ok... 3.2 core is a shade over 1.4v cannot find screenshot on vista anyone recommend an app [freeware]

Looks like I have a problem with nv4_disp.dll system keeps rebooting.... so will to update drivers [I think!]
