This is kept alive by the CMOS battery if there is no power supply to the board.

The above does not help with the reason you lose settings due to a failed OC. Sorry.

RE: Bios resetting prob

No. :)

The cmos will store what ever settings you choose in the bios. :)

RE: Bios resetting prob

Slipstream, I know you are knowledgeable by the number of posts you make, I am trying to decide if that statement regarding the cmos is a thinly disguised clue, Do you have to discharge the cmos at some stage when changing settings?

The mobo is a Gigabyte P35 DS3r. Seems to be ok at 3.56 even when running Orthos, Excuse my ignorance.

RE: Bios resetting prob

Yes. Thinking about it, the budget ASRock does the same with the power-off trick, although there is a dedicated setting in the BIOS for automatic crash recovery, and that's the effect Yeoboy is seeing I suspect. :)

Cheers, Slipstreem.

RE: Bios resetting prob

That depends. On Asus boards you can either press the power button for a few seconds or unplug the mains cable. Once powered up again and it will default. Nice Asus...Friendly to over clockers...

RE: Bios resetting prob

Yes. Imagine the consequences if it didn't revert to defaults after a failed overclock. You'd have to remove the battery and reset the BIOS with a jumper every time it happened. ;)

Cheers, Slipstreem.

RE: Bios resetting prob

It's normally the sign of a failed over clock which means it's not as stable as it seems. :)

Bios resetting prob

Hi, Since building my first o/c pc (c/o first overclock thread) I have switched the pc on and on a couple of occasions the pc reverted to its stock speed, It is running at 3.56 happuily but when I tried setting to 3.8 it would boot up and run but would revert back to stock when next fired up, Probably something simple but as a newbe has anyone an idea please,
