The six-month line in the sand will likely also be frozen, meaning that when the verdict finally comes down people will be able to claim up to 7.5 years into the past. Assuming the banks don't wriggle off the hook, of course. I reckon they might, as they'll no doubt have the sympathy of the fat-cat judges because the banking sector's gone to hell in a handbasket. I'd laugh at that if it hadn't put so many ordinary people in difficulty.

RE: the banks etc.....

I hate to say I told you so but..........a verdict is not expected till early 2009!! and of course all ongoing cases will be frozen until then.

RE: the banks etc.....

It's a good site -- well worth a look.

As for the man being an ex-newsreader, I think you're confusing him with Martyn Lewis. Martin Lewis has never been a newsreader (to my knowledge).

RE: the banks etc.....

Martin Lewis????......don't need some jumped up ex-newsreader to tell me how to save money. Common sense really....you DON'T get anything for nothing. No such thing as a FREEBIE. No I don't want a "holiday" from paying my bank loan...especially when you are still charging interest during the holiday...same applies to a mortgage....and so called "cashback".....most of the stuff is obvious, and when you read it properly REALITY kicks in......;)
RE: the banks etc.....

haha, martin lewis!
what a ledgend!
i get his monthly emails.

must admit tho, man is a bit OTT!

RE: the banks etc.....

Just been reading the Mail (it's the paper of this thank you very much :D) and interestingly a fair number of these banks have seemed to have reduced these charges.....Funny that?

RE: the banks etc.....

Argh no, Martin Lewis, Trikes arch nemesis! :P

RE: the banks etc.....

I listen to martin lewis on radio 2 with jerry vine.

This guy really knows how to play the banks at there own game. see what you can learn and how much you can save with this web site.

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/

RE: the banks etc.....

I can't help wondering why you have posted this and the olympics thread here instead of in Other stuff/rants and whinges.

RE: the banks etc.....

I don't know about the "score 1 for the banks". From what I've read (which isn't much), all that's left is for the OFT to decide if the charges are indeed unfair (now that the courts have established that the charges are covered by unfair-contract law). Seeing that it was the OFT that brought the matter to the courts in the first place, it seems unlikely they'll say that the charges *are* fair. So, apart from the banks' appeal (which could well turn things on their head, as so often happens), it seems done and dusted. The "people" have won.

That was always the correct result, at least from a moralistic point of view, but with the banks in so much fiancial difficulty now (largely at their own hands), I thought maybe they'd be let off the hook.

the banks etc.....

I am surprised that no-one has posted about me "hoisted on my own petard" etc
even though the court HAS actually decided that 1.The charges are enforceable(score 1 for the banks). and 2.The charges are subject to the "unfair terms act" (score 1 for the people)
No mention, indeed thats not what the case was about(despite what the Daily Mail says)of the charges being unfair!
That all comes much later...expect something from the Banks around late May.
