I then, again on 28 June, installed SP3. Again no problems.

On 29 June, just before return of the PC to it's owner, I changed Automatic Update Setttings FROM "Notify me but don't install" TO "Automatically Download and Install".

Only Update installed on 29 June was KB951978. I still monitored the install of KB951978, up to and including the requested reboot of the PC. Still no problems.

AFTER REBOOT - NO MOUSE, NO KEYBOARD.

You have misunderstood the update KB951978 issue on ONE SMALL BUT IMPORTANT POINT,
After gaining keyboard but not Mouse functionality. I removed the update, issue remains.
THEN I removed Service Pack 3, but the issue persisted.

On 30 June (OVERNIGHT), BEFORE REPEAT BEFORE clearing the CMOS, the Keyboard and Mouse both are working.

The issue remains with the update KB951978, but the keyboard/mouse problem APPEARS TO BE SELF FIXING GIVEN TIME

As of date and time of this e-mail, PC is fully functional and bagged ready to return to owner.

Only Update notified to me before disconnecting PC is SP3.

I AM SOMEWHAT RELUCTANT TO RE-INSTALL THIS SERVICE PACK UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS FULLY RESOLVED"

NB This issue has not affected my laptop (CoreDuo), with both SP3 AND KB951978 installed

I have since spent a week swapping increasingly pointless e-mails with Micros**t, with them trying to blame everything from faulty keyboard/mouse (my same test/built kit used before/during/after/still) to USB drivers (keyboard/mouse are PS2), before they will admit any possibility of faulty software.

I will not install SP3 again, and advise anyone one else to either don't install or remove it and KB951978.

RE: sp3

i hate it . service pack 2 was better . my internet dont work with my 3 usb modem with service pack 3 installed even did a full clean install

waste off time .

RE: sp3

thanks for all the replies people, will give it a go now,i do have xubuntu to fall back on lol :D

RE: sp3
Jason (24/07/2008)
Of course, only fools use Windows.
