As far as a remove/reinstall is concerned, have you tried 'safe mode'?

Edit: Just thought, if you can't do a remove/reinstall of Office it suggests that your Office registry may be corrupt. Try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

If your registry IS corrupt, you may have other worries. Apart from virus/trojan attacks I'd suggest you acquire SpinRite and check your hard drive.

RE: Excel Problem

It's not on the laptop in question so I may give it a try...CCleaner did squat. :)

RE: Excel Problem

Used Eusing reg cleaner lately? As for the file associations I have already looked at them and they seem to be fine. It's got me stumped? Especially as it will not let me remove/repair the office suite. :)

RE: Excel Problem

Yeah .. maybe the extension is missing... Have you tried opening a saved document with the office cd in? in case it requires something from the disc... If i remember the only time i came across a simular problem was when office wasnt fully installed. But thats already been discussed/mentioned by other users here.
Try putting the office cd in the drive then open a saved document and when the installer boots in see if it does anything.

MrJ

RE: Excel Problem

OK -sounds like your file associations have been corrupted by something. What do you get when you go to Tools->Folder Options->File Types->XLS->Advanced->Edit File->highlight 'Open' and click Edit?
You should get a dialog that says: (assuming you have used default file locations)
Action Open
Application used to perform action
c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\excel

use DDE should be checked
and DDE Manage should be
[open("%1")]

If you don't have this - what do you have? My guess is that XLS is missing.

RE: Excel Problem

It says it's done but all's the same.
