Well spent another 30 mins on the phone with AOL to give them another chance and they just refused to believe I was unable to access these sites. I mentioned I had tried connecting using IE,FF and Safari and on mulitple operating systems (XP,Vista and Ubuntu) and computers. Also tried with and without their marvelous software. I also metioned other people had the same connectivity issues yet they were less than eager to help. I have now logged a complaint with the ISPA as previously suggested :-)

7.5 days till I connect with Be :D so long suckers

I've taken the liberty of informing BE that AOL are playing dirty tricks and they are all ready aware of it: -

I've just gone live with O2 broadband and guess what? I can now access the BE website so it looks like it was definitely AOL blocking me accessing it. Is that legal? :cool:

Just a little point to make about "going for a drive to find an open network"
I remember reading about this somewhere that some one had been arrested and convicted for it, a Polish guy kept parking up in the same place and sitting in his car for ages got reported and arrested for suspicious behavior and got convicted for free loading on other peoples networks forget exactly what they called the crime know.
Might want to think twice before you do that again LOL:unsure:

Well the plot thickens.......

I too am with AOL (until tomorrow :w00t: ) and i've just tried to access the BE website on my old XP rig (which i have done quite a few times in the past with no problems) and i can't access it on that one now either.

If AOL are blocking it, why? I can get on any other website that i try - it's just BE broadband site.

Roll on tomorrow......

Well I was up till the wee hours installing Ubuntu and that won't connect to the previous web pages mentioned either. Got my confirmation email through this morning from Be and I should be live on the 4th of April happy days :-)

Be speed figures are conservative, they quoted me 4mb, but I get 6mb.
As FS said, go for the value first, if you get 8mb, then move up to the next level.

Be is good :)

I get 11Mbits, living 2km from the exchange.

If you will only get 6, then go for the Value package, which is unlimited downloads, but at a maximum of 8MBps.

Well thank you all so much for your help! Was unable to find an open network so I tried visiting bethere and toolstation through a proxy. As if by magic they appeared first time!! I am definately leaving AOL. The question is ADSL24 or I have confirmed I can now go live with Be unlimited. The pricing seems better with Be but I am worried about their speeds. I got them to do a line test and they came back with download of 6 megabits per second. Now I am going to google this and find out how this translates into kilobytes a second unless any of you bright sparks can let me know. Thanks again for your help and as for AOL er YOU SUCK!

Right Safari has the same problems. As far as I can see the only other option for me is to test the websites using a different ISP. I dont have a dialup modem (did not think my supadupa new pc would need one, BAH! ) so I am going to borrow the laptop and go for a drive. Will report back

Haha nope. Even restarted the browser and made exceptions for the sites in FF and IE. I don't go through a router just a modem. Funny thing is my brothers PC wont access the sites or the other halves brand spanking new this weekend laptop running Vista won't access them. Maybe these sites upset someone at my isp (aol) :-)

Tried it on several machines and browsers (on my network) just comes up with server not found. I only have windows firewall running. Ah just remembered. Had a problem accessing a site a few weeks back and just tried it again. www.toolstation.com and it still does not work. Can any of you work out what these two sites would have in common? I have just pinged bethere and tool station and I don't even get a "request timed out" message, it just hangs... MMM the plot thickens HELP! lol

I was having the same problem with the BE site last week and posted elsewhere on the MM forum for any help.

I was told to clear the cache - which didn't help, i also had Kaspersky turned off which also didn't help. I tried AOL's browser, IE and Firefox - all to no avail.

BE is the only site that i've not been able to access and i still don't know what the problem is nor can i access it yet either.

I've decided to go with O2 now anyway but it would be nice to get to the bottom of it.

Are you sure that your firewall isn't stopping you accessing it, had Kaspersky which I use, blocking access for some reason,all sort now.

Still no joy! Been trying for days to connect to the Be website. All other websites are fine.I tried the Google cached page but that was painfully slow. Just spoken to ADSL24 and the chap seemed to know what he was talking about :-) 10 points to them. I think I might have found my new ISP :-)

According to samknows broadband Be unlimited with be installing their gear in my local exchange at the end of march. I would like to have a look at their products but sadly there website is unreachable, really not a good sign I feel! Is there an alternative web address? I have finally got my mac code from AOL. I have been a loyal customer of theirs for some years but the broadband service really sucks of late. Customer services don't seem know what they are on about at all. Does anyone know of an AOL server status page? Apparently they have been migrating servers. I was also looking at ADSL24, very interested but is there software out there that would monitor and cap my peak hour usage so as not to incur further costs?

Sorry to ask such a lot in such a short message :-)
