We had Tiscali for a couple of years. Speed was officially 512, which it exceeded. It was unlimited downloads and didn't seem to be throttled at all, but upload speed was dire. But recently it went down hill, so we moved to Orange.

I've been with Tiscali for about 5 years now.

Never had much problem with them.

Also I've never got the advertised speed from them either.

When their base package was 512Kbps I got 256Kbps (my line wasn't good enough for 512Kbps).

When their base package went up to 1Mbps I threatened to terminate the contract and got 512Kbps (miraculously my line was now good for 512Kbps but not 1Mbps).

When their base package went up to 2Mbps another threatened termination later another miracle, my line was now good for 1Mbps but not 2Mbps.

Had a phone call last week trying to offer me an upgrade to 4Mbps, so I politely told them they couldn't deliver 2Mbps on their 2Mbps package and they'd already identified that it was the fault of my line (18years old and still going).

So unfortunately Marketing and Sales Department your Technical department assures me I can't benefit from your offer, so there's no point in paying for something I can't have, so no you can't have any more revenue from me. (Revenge is sweet served cold).

No doubt when Tiscali's minimum package says it's 4Mbps I'll pull my face again and another miracle increase to 2Mbps will occur..

Having said that my connection speed is rock solid and I've never hit any download limits, despite downloading Debian Linux (2 DVDs), Fedora Core (5Cds),Mandriva (3Cds) and another couple of DVDs worth of Linux Distros in a single month. All in all about 30GB worth.

So If everyone near you has BT, they're all contending for the BT bandwidth and presumably suffering from contention ratios. Switching to Tiscali will presumably reduce those contention ratio issues.

Phone up BT to get your MAC code.

You might find they offer you a better deal to keep you onboard.

As Tiscali is up for sale, I would wait to see what happens to them.

I know that was what I was saying but BT strangle it 5-midnight and all weekend whereas Tiscali only do it 5-11.

Is there a high user on here who uses them?

I wouldn't bother changing at the moment.Tiscali also strangles your speed.

Just watch you don't get tied in to a long contract with tiscali,maybe 12 or 18 months, otherwise if Be came to your exhange you couldn't changed.

3 or 6 months is long anough contract.

I dont want to have to pay more when on the unlimited package it should be unlimited?? I am paying £25 per month, the Tiscali equivalent is $8.50 for three months then £14.99???

I would ring bt and ask for a MAC code. They will ask why and you tell them that your speed is carp. They might suggest Option 3. That is what i am getting and i have spoke to them several times about restrictions on speed and they always state that i wont get restricted. just pay 30p per gig over fup.

Cancel with BT and get your MAC code and sign up for Tiscali and they will send you a new router etc and a date for when the line is activated. :)

How does changing work? would I get an activation date then tell BT when to suspend BB??

I just signed up for tiscali a couple of weeks ago. My line was initialized on tuesday according to them. I have not yet received my BB pack so can't even connect! Called them and they said sorry and said they will send another that will arrive in 5 days. :(

I hate paying for something I have not got the use of.

Hi

My exchange is only enabled for Tiscali so its either that or stay with BT.

I am classed as a high user so am limits at peak times it seems this is 5-midnight and all weekend???

I ran speed tests this morning sue to slow net and got mixed results from 60kb to 600kb I am supposed to have 2mb.

I am sick of the slow crap speeds on BT so was looking at changing but Tiscali is the only one available in my area, other all use BT lines and wouldn't be any better than BT.

[b]Does anyone recommend Tiscali?[/b] I have looked at their FUP and it doesn't look that different form BT's?
