They were taken over by pipex and then by tiscali, since the tiscali take over, a complete nightmare.

Dropped connections, slow/non existent speeds at peak times etc, i have now switched to adsl24, superb, superfast and no problems except freedom 2 surf asking me to settle an "invoice" which I have refused to do as I have no billable services from them anymore.

Anyway, i'd stay away from the whole f2s/pipex/tiscali merry go round, the web is littered with lots of complaints about all 3 but especially tiscali.

Anyway, good luck.

RE: Your Experiences changing ISP's

AOL to Tiscali...Both side were a right pain.

RE: Your Experiences changing ISP's

I had no problem moving from Pipex to O2. But that was because the idiots at Pipex had "changed" my service (not at my request) and then disconnected me because they thought I was in arrears. This was from arrears dating back 2 years, which had been their fault and cleared up shortly after. When I spoke to them to get my line reactivated, I had to jump through several hoops to clear the "bad credit rating" their accounts dept. had me down for, before being told I would have to pay a reconnection fee and move on to a more expensive tariff, which was capped (I was previously on PipexMax uncapped at £15pm). As you can imagine, I told them to shove it where the sun don't shine.
Moving to O2 was a doddle, Pipex had done me a favour by disconnecting my BB as I did not now need a MAC, the line was showing as free. In fact they did me several favours as I now get cheaper BB (£7.50pm Uncapped), cheaper phone calls (I was on Pipex Homephone) and a more reliable connection. Thank you Pipex, or rather thank you Tiscali, for taking over what was once a decent service and then making it carp, and then messing up and chucking me off.
EDIT: Just noticed you are moving from Pipex to Tiscali, are you mad? They are one and the same; don't expect any better service from Tiscali, they are the ones who effectively ruined the Pipex service.

RE: Your Experiences changing ISP's

(Pipex) Homecall
Had to 3 weeks from placing my order to connection

(Pipex) Homecall > AOL

(Pre OFCOM MAC code guidelines)

I had to complain to OTELO because they had changed their T&Cs with the introduction of ther FUP without telling me. I did not agree with the change in T&Cs.

Migration took 10 days once I'd recieved my MAC code

AOL > Merula

(Post OFCOM MAC Code guidelines)

Complained to OFCOM because AOL had not sent me my MAC code after 6 working days.

Migration took 5 days with a slight increase in download speed once I was connected to Merula

Merula > O2

No problem getting a MAC Code. Merula have changed their packages and I think they're too expensive for the usage limits.

Migration took 5 days again with a slight increase in download speed.

The problem I've had this time is the fact that they've taken a full months payment rather than just the 3 days I was with them this month. Apparently, they only get a list of migrations once a month from BT rather than on the day that the migration takes place. I should get a refund once they've got the list from BT.

RE: Your Experiences changing ISP's

AOL to Pipex a nightmare. Still waiting for a MAC code that was promised within 5 working days, it's now been over 3 weeks. Have canceled the DD to AOL now. As they have to get it through BT they said it would take a couple of days and they'd email it.

Couple of days later, mac is emailed and input to Be. Be gives me a date. Date comes, and I come home from school to find I am wizzing round the internetworks!

All good :D

In your case, have you actually transferred to Tiscali? If that is the case, then just stop paying Pipex. You're no longer receiving their service, so no payment. It's not like you haven't told them already.

RE: Your Experiences changing ISP's

when i moced from tiscali to Be, it was very easy with no-problems either side. i called and asked tiscali for the mac code and they sent, easy.

RE: Your Experiences changing ISP's

In common with most ISPs, you will probably find that your contract is not with the sales or 'help' line staff, but with the company billing department, often in a carefully obscure, non-contactable location. If you can find out where that is by reading original or even current 'Terms and Conditions' small print, try writing to them by recorded or even special delivery stating your case ? (It took that to make Orange threatening letters go away in my case.) :)

Your Experiences changing ISP's

Hi all. Having recently changed ISP (back in april) I keep on getting bills for my old supplier (Pipex). I have rung them on four different ocassions and told them that I'm not paying the bill as Tiscali had took over the service and as far as I'm concerned I had settled up with Pipex by paying my direct debit in May. I also got an email from them last week congratulating me for choosing them to supply broadband(what a load of muppets).

Has any one else had problems changing from Pipex(or any other ISP), and if how did you resolve it??

I was issued MAC code which I did pass on to Tiscali.

I'm nearing my wits end and considering reporting them to OFCOM or Trading Standards.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.
