The set up varies between vista and XP. From memory, in XP you go to control Panel>Network Connections and select the adapter for the PC (wired or wireless). You need to check that File and Printer sharing is enabled. Then in Windows explorer you can create/pick a folder to share and give it a name.

On the vista PC you need control panel.network and sharing centre - not near a vista PC but its in that section. then share a folder as above.

you may also need to tweak any firewalls you have running, depending on how they are configured.

NAS drives are great, and handy for back up (also you don't need the other PC turned on), but for your purposes you probably don't need one.

shared/networked hdd

i have a bt home hub and must say i really like it (i know a lot of u guy will be getting ur vodo doll out now:P) i have 2 pc in my hous a vista and a xp, the xp machin is older and therfoe i do more things on the vista but i still use my xp. because of this i am forever running up and down the stars with my pen sitck. i would like to know if it is possible to connect a hard drive into the network @ the hub so i can just copy my files over to that then copy on to the other pc. i belive it is posible but im not sure on how to get the hdd to show up on the pc if that makes sencse

SORRY FOR my spelling the spell cheaker dosnt work in opra and IE is not working
