sounds like the ip addy and gateway addresses were static on the w98 box, you'll have to view the properties of the lan connection and configure tci/ip to either dhcp or a valid static address, you may also need to change dns servers if they are stated statically at the moment.

i recently had to fit a new router a belkin 4 port +wireless type. previously i had networked two vista laptops with a desktop with w98se on ethernet without problem. the address of the new router is 192.168.2.1. the two laptops addresses are also of the 192.168.2. variety. however the desktop sees the router as 10.0.0.2 and consequently will not connect. as far as i remember the 10.0.0.2 address was as used on the old router. can anyone explain or help overcome this problem.
