After spending some time with Mr Homer to resolve the matter, it became clear that no resolution was forthcoming. With immense thanks to Wolverhampton Trading Standards, the decision was made to prosecute Mr Homer under Section 15A of the 1968 Theft Act.

Mr Homer last week entered a guilty plea to seven offences at Wolverhampton Crown Court. He has been sentenced to 80 hours of community services, ordered to attend a community/rehabilitation program, ordered to pay compensation for goods not delivered and a further £1000 towards court costs. Remaining offences are to be kept on file.

It’s extremely rare, due to the vigilant policing processes we put in place, that we experience any troubles with our classified ad service such as this. The one previous occurrence led to us spending five figures on private detective services when the police were reluctant to help us prosecute, and again, this resulted in a successful prosecution a few years’ ago.

We work extremely hard to ensure that our classifieds are a safe and secure trading environment, and will not hesitate to act if anyone abuses the service we offer.
Classified Adverts Statement

MICRO MART STATEMENT
For all classified ad users

As some of you have noticed, a few months ago we put a list of addresses in our classified ad pages that we asked you to not have dealings with. These related to someone using the service for fraudulent purposes, and we promised an update when we had something to tell. With that in mind, we now issue the following statement:

‘Following a number of complaints by our readers of fraudulent adverts appearing in Micro Mart magazine, Trinity Publications engaged the services of an external company to investigate these adverts. They concluded that these adverts were the result of two individuals working together. A report was passed to the Police and in the last two weeks two arrests have been made. For legal reasons we cannot comment any further and a further
update will be published in due course.’

Micro Mart will absolutely not tolerate people abusing the classified ad service, and we’re proud of the minimal number of problems that have arisen in over eighteen years of offering the service. We will have further updates as soon as we are legally able.

Classified Ads Problem

It has come to our attention that an individual by the name of Oliver Mood is currently trying to defraud individuals through our classified adverts system. We're going for a slightly larger than the norm type of mug, so you can get that bit more of your favourite drink in there.

However, we need some help.

On one side of the mug, it will read 'Micro Mart Mug'. On the other? That's where you come in. Currently, our idea is:

10 PRINT "FILL ME WITH TEA!"
20 GOTO 10

We wanted a quote, but we could have legal issues....

So what should we put on there? Post your suggestions here...!

Thanks

Simon
