Do epson printers still have a 'suicide counter' that makes them pretend to be dead after a certain amount of prints?

I bought an HP 1018 black-and-white laser printer six months ago for £30 and its still on the original toner cartridge after several hundred pages. Replacement cartridge is also around £30. I'm very happy with the print quality.

I've always had Epsons, I'm using an R220 too with Think+ inks from Choice Stationary. Not the cheapest inks, but I can't tell the difference between them and the Epson genuine ones....oh, except for an extra £30 or so quid in my wallet.

My main vice with the HP inkjets is the amount of ink they plaster onto the paper, especially the old deskjets. They used to put on so much ink even the thickest paper used to crinkle......I've never had a Lexmark, good printers, but the inks were so expensive.

Very true Wiz. I got a Lexmark about 2 years ago. I used the cartridge up, and didn't get another one. It was just too expensive.

I live on donated Epsons - the latest bieng an R220, and the missus uses a GX3850 all in one jobbie.

I pay £5 down the high street for a set of 6 inks. Print qualty is suprising from these carts - though I do use a heavy (recycled) GSM paper for prints.

Also, if you have a 6 ink Epson, a continuous ink system may pay off if you print a shed load of documents.

Lexmark cartridges cost more than the printer! My mate just used to throw the printer out and buy another...:P

I'd say Epson or Canon. Once upon a time I would have also said HP if using Linux but the latest distro's, especialy Ubuntu, even cope perfectly with multi-function Epsons recognising both the Printer and Scanner without problems.

If it's not a Lexmark, you'll be fine.
