I've got a feeling I may be wrong on the edit above - I may be confusing the two rigs I've got ST installed on! I'll have to check again - sorry if I've confused anyone else apart from myself !! :D

Another edit !! :D I can now confirm that Spybot S+D's Tea Timer and Spyware Terminator are both enabled and working together - they don't always react to the same things though. I hope to get round to reading all the help files one day soon! ST is very thorough if it is all enabled.

While I'm here I will say that, although you may think it is over the top, I have enabled the Web Security Guard, which works like McAfee's Site Advisor and they both, mainly, report bad sites at the same time in Google Search, whereas AVG toolbars equivalent gives a Green light to a lot of the red and amber ones :w00t: whether this is because of something I've not done right remains to be seen ( I should do a bit more reading on that too, I suppose!), but it is something I observed whilst testing them all together!

I noticed that although Spybot S+D was set with Tea-Timer on, and shown ticked in the program somewhere in the settings, when Spyware Terminator was installed, with real-time protection on, it looks like it must have turned Spybot S+D Tea Timer off. Not a problem, just an observation, as the pop up alert ST did earlier was like the one Spybot S+D would have done.

Edit: UPDATE - NO IT HAS NOT - Tea Timer does still seem to be on after all - !!!

Well, ive been using Spyware Terminstaor now for a few weeks and it is quite good. Get a lot of annoying popups with it though. ive turned them off but not sure how at the moment...hope its not the realtime function ive shut down.

This with Spybot seems to be a good combo at the moment. Windows Live Onecare just does not like AdAware at all which is why ive had to ditch it.

Cookies are harmless. All they do is allow a website to tell if you have been there before or not (and also log in info if you wish to be remembered).

I can't remember why, but SuperAntiSpyware wasn't on my system for long. I can't remember if it was something I read or what though.

Thanks very much for your help.

So far, every other spyware program I try does something a bit different. Spyware Terminator checks your Favourites / Bookmarks which is good. It also finds other cookies the others don't. More on that when I post a thread about Cookies one day soon!

It is also pretty quick, the new Spybot S+D checks my laptop in about 25 mins, and Spyware Terminator is about the same, I have tried SuperAntiSpyware on my old old W98 desktop, but it was a lot slower (relatively)! (I tried A-squared on that too, seems better than SUPERAntispyware).

I'm not sure about the Crawler toolbar - it's seems to have taken over!! Even though I unticked the box. I must look at it's options - it does a lot if you want it too. I run out of screen space - if I turn on all the toolbars I have downloaded.

I'm not sure about the free Crawler Smilies, that it points you to either, wondering if it's free how do they make their money!

I set up some scheduled tasks with AVG and Spyware Doctor, at different times and let them get on with it, (manual Spybot S+D as it got rid of some things I didn't want it to once!).

I'll let you know how I get on! :)

i use spyware terminator as it gets one of the best ratings for anti-spyware even against paid for software. yes it is a bit hungry on the CPU's time but until another free program comes along that is better, there isn't much to beat it that is a real-time scanner

Yes. I use Teatimer. From Spyware Terminator I have HIPS and the real-time protection on.

EDIT: Just read your reply in the other thread.
If you don't want to use ClamAV after installing it, you can disable it from the settings page. It's stable and scans. I haven't used it as my real-time protection as it isn't aswell rated as other tools.

Do you have Tea Timer turned On in Spybot S+D, as well as ST's real-time protection?

Hi,

I used the Spyware Terminator real-time protection. ClamAv was used as a manual scan tool, not real-time and I didn't use the crawler toolbar at all.

I'm using it Spyware Terminator in the above form again as the incompatibility has been fixed it seems.

I think I was using Avira, Spybot aswell as Spyware Terminator. I had a few other tools, but they were manual scanners, not real-time.

I'm doing some research before I post a query about Spyware Terminator!

I was wondering how can you tell ST was using a core to itself?

Did you enable the Real-time protection, ClamAV and the Crawler Toolbar when installed the first time, what else was you using in the Spy/AV department?

Spyware Terminator is good at it's job. Recommended, just watch for it being incompatible.

Cheers though, i wanted a realtime spyware solution, also running spybot but MS Onecare doesnt like AdAware for some reason so i wanted another program to run with spybot.

I used to use it as my Spyware protection, but I found it was incompatible with something I ran and so it would just use an entire core of the processor for itself. So I had to uninstall it.

It's a good utility, but if you find that it has the same issue, uninstalling it is the only option. I've defaulted back to Spybot S&D.
