I thought the title of this topic was a reference to XPaint. Try mtPaint, that's better than Paint aswell.

I like Paint.net aswell. It's no use for Linux but it is reasonable step-up from MS Paint without jumping all the way to Photoshop

I hate to say it, but I agree. I wish I could love the Gimp, but it acts like it was designed by a commitee. Lots of people have put a lot of work into it for no pay and I respect that a lot, but it just doesnt feel coherant.
I don't like Writer in Open Office either; we use them both because we're on a low income and its better than nothing; but if I won the lottery I'd buy Photoshop CS!
I've just installed Deep Paint off a magazine disc, thats a lot of fun. You can customise the brushes and effects.

sounds useful, but I have given' up on The GIMP for the time being. Photoshop and Fireworks for the time being. Then again for free The GIMP is amazing, compared to the crap usually supplied with scanners and digital cameras.

It is up there with Open Office, AGV and Zone Alram. All completly good free software yet for all of them, but there is a even better commercial version available. I hate to say it but it is true.

Paint.net is better than Paint...but Paint better than Dogwaffle?!? Talk about comparing Oranges and Bananas. Have you tried the OctoPustics panel? Pah!
I agree that the Gimp is a tad tricky after Photoshop, tho. But its free so can't complain.
Anyone else use fractal freeware? I've got the most amazing program called Chaoscope, from www.chaoscope.org. Its really easy to pick up, and I'm working on a series of Alien Shells at the mo that are just awesome.
I also use Xaos.

Have you tried dogwaffle? Was a review in this weeks mag, but ive used an earlier version. THAT's wierd, but an awful lot of fun

Nope, I'll be sticking to photoshop in future a hell of alot easier. But it was good to learn how to do things the hard way.

Dont suppose you've found a way to get the GIMP to all go into one window? Opposed to a window for each toolbox?

Don't know about every one that has done the first diploma stuff but I found using The GIMP program a hell of a lot harder than Photoshop (the norm for me), and to be honest I struggled using it. Anyways learnt sommit new (to a point) so it ain't all bad.
