Hey all,

I have recently got my new wireless router up and running, it's a Linksys WAG54GS. Now that is all working fine, i decded to turn to security and therefore I decided to go for WPA encryption and the router allowed me to use a combination of AES and TKIP encryption, which I chose and I input my pass key.

Now on one of my wireless laptops I am using a 3com office connect Wireless G PCMCIA card. This allows WPA to be selected, and a pass key to be entered, however it does not mention which encryption type it uses, so I set the pass key and away I went, it seems to be working fine.

Now I also got a USB Wireless adaptor which I have connected to my other laptop, again made by Linksys, it's a WU854GS-UK. This gives me the option of either selecting AES or TKIP but not both together, as on the router. Is this going to give me problems, i.e. the connection being lost when the encryption method changes?.

Is it worth just selecting one method, and going with that, say either TKIP or AES?

Any help would be great.

Regards,

Q

It doesn't appear you have much choice but to select one or the other. If it does cause problems can you set the router to use just the one method?

I would swear on a stack of bibles I'd replied to this one!

As the router supports simultaneous TKIP and AES then you can use either on the client.
AES is the most secure, but WPA is bullet proof anyway.

OK, good stuff, I'm using AES now, so will stick with it. I think the problem before was with Zone Alarm, which I just could not get to work!, so I un-installed it.

Seems to be working OK now, so will look out for more problems.

Many thanks.
