I'm looking to purchase a new scanner for slides and negatives. I have looked at a few flatbeds which require, a bit of fiddling, to remove the underside of the lid to insert the slides/negatives.

Is there a flatbed on the market which has a seperate port for inserting slides and negs?

Or a non flatbed just for slides and negs?

It doesn't need to be top of the range just produce resonable results.

Taking that into account I'm going to opt for the Epsom Perfection 3590. Although it's a flatbed it's got an automatic film loader on the front for fast scanning, and it's had good reviews.

3,200 dpi at 48 bit colour, connecting with USB2 sound ok to me.

Did you buy the Epson Perfection 3590 in the end?

would like to hear from you if you did, I have several hundred negative Black & white film strips from way back when, mostly developed by myself. Only problem is I no longer have an enlarger or even facilities to "see" the results. I bet I have some really good photos.

Now digital of course, and retired, so would like to get a good scanner to view.

Any performance details and whether its worth buying.

Hi Rod, like slapstic, I would like to know how you got on with the scanner.

I need a printer and scanner - don't know whether to get an all-in-one, or a laser jet and a scanner, or a scanner and a Inkjet !!

Bit of a necropost this one. I had forgotten about this post. Found it by accident.

To be truthful I haven't really used it much since I bought it. I have a lot of negs and slide to compile to digital format and it's going to be a massive undertaking for which I need alot of time to complete. It's the sort of project that I don't want to start unless I know I'm going to have a lot of free time to finish.

So the answer to the question is I bought it, but haven't really used it. By the time I get around to scanning, the unit will be completely obselete and I'll have to buy a newer product.

I would have liked to have bought a dedicated slide/neg scanner but it was too expensive.
