BigAlbie (11/05/2006)

On a serious note, maybe Sven ought to have his eyes checked by an opthalmic optitian. I had no real problem with any of the articles I've (briefly) read so far. This issue was no more difficult to read than last weeks.

And before I'm shot down in flames. I actually am visually impaired to a certain degree (and I don't mean short/long sighted).........

I am actually visually impared myself, but the font size seeming to go down doesn't help anyone. My wife and (older) kids who are all fine all seemed to think that comparing issue 900 to 901 that 901 was more difficult to read. However I believe most people wont notice this, but it is an issue for people who maybe into computing who may have difficulties with colour differentiation and so much as seeing the text as the amount of black per character has dropped leaving it looking cleaner but more difficult for character recognition.

But this is only my opinion. However I do worry if the mag falls foul of the DDA, and frankly just as I am hugely in favour of making computing as accessible to everyone as possible, I want Micro Mart to be as accessible to as many people as possible.

I apologise if I upset anyone with my point of view.

I Quite like the format but the Cabbage patch monochrome pictures see earlier post. I made a small grammatical error and it was initially posted as "Horrible Leo" I have since corrected it.

Simon:

Just one or several points, until I can browse in depth.

I definitely do not like the horizontal run over two pages.

Your proof copy may be brilliant, but on small point sizes, 'bleed' is occurring from the colour into the white text areas, making it difficult to read.

Whoever prompted you to replace pix of yourself and the rest of the crew with "portraits"?

For a start, (no offence) you look more like Phil Silvers of the original "Sgt Bilko" series, than Silvers! Let us have your original cheery photo back!

But - an overall 8/10. It is now getting to the point that there is more content than I can manage in a week.

As a constant whinger about the price, I am now able to say that I am willing to accept an increase - to £2.00!Tongue

Simon,

The first strides into the brave new world have met with a mixed reaction then! I must echo the comments about your photos, as frankly the old cartoony ones you had were a bit of a giggle, the real photos good yet not too shocking, and these new ones...... ghastly.

Split reviews horizontally doesn't seem too bad, the text is ok if a little small, but the white text on red background might need reassessing. Classifieds - WooHoo, I now can follow where I am; excellent!

Simon, and your whole team, I don't think that the quality of the content has ever been in question and perhaps the whole change in presentation needs a little running in time, but I hope we will all be fair with you over any fine tuning you might feel necessary in the next few months. Your Phil Silvers/Bilko lookie-likey is rather worrying though, and I'm sure Michelle looked a lot less scary in real life......

I shall be watching with interest, best of luck

Roger.

p.s. Nearly forgot, why are the experts at the back? Seems odd.

Everything I own is broken

Even what was left of my mind!

As a new reader of MM (last 9 months), I give a big thumbs up to the new look. Personally didn't have any problems with the new colours or fonts and think they look generally better. Classifieds are a big improvement and far easier to read. MM overall looks more polished and slick.

Two minor gripes:

1. Experts after the classifieds doesn't seem to follow the accepted generic magazine layout and therefore people browsing in newsagents might miss the section?

2. PLEASE STOP putting adverts in the middle of all the longer articles. It's as though you think we don't have an attention span that will last to the end of a 3 or 4 page article and require an advert break in the middle!!

Otherwise - nice one fellas / gals well done.

I expect that's done solely because the advertisers pay to be put there. The magazine lives or dies from its advertising.
