| Just for reference OS4 was originally planned to be a stepping stone... During the conversion of the OS from 680x0 to PowerPC, the intention (and indeed this I believe this did happen) was to start the move to make the OS as hardware agnostic as possible. Later revisions of OS4 are supposed to add support for multiple PPC processors, and 64-bit support for use with the appropriate PowerPC processors such as Cell and so on. (its been made clear on more than one occassion that the project leaders on OS4 - the Frieden Brothers are fans of the Cell somewhat.) The plan was then to move to processor agnostic fully 64-bit OS with OS5, allowing porting to any processor with appropriate specs. Of course this was all laid out in a road map in 2000/2001 which should have seen OS5 out by the end of this year... and we'll be lucky to see OS4 out and hardware to run it on.
