I am trying to network my PC and my girlfiends laptop together so we can share files and printers etc. I have a Safecom wireless router/modem (SWART2-54125). We can share the internet with no problems. With both the router firewall and Zonealarm running on both computers.

The annoying thing is, I did have it working. Both computers could see each others shared files and printers, with the firewalls up. But with a little bit of fiddling I have managed to screw it up. (The internet connection has never stopped working for either of us, despite my fiddling!)

Now whenever I try and set up the network, both PC's say that they cannot find the host. I have tried this with Zonealarm on and off. I set up the network exactly how I did before, when it was workng: My Network Places - Set up a home or small office network - and went through the wizard. Something I have also noticed is that Windows ICS/Firewall service keeps running after I set up the network even though I have disabled the service completely. I know it is something I have touched, perhaps a setting for the router??

Please help, it is driving me round the bend.

Both PC's are running XP with SP2

It's unlikely to be a setting on the router, more likely software on the PC.

Have a look in the FAQs on the Home Networking Forum, they have helped many people out in the same situation.

Sorted! I did have a read through the how to's a FAQ's but it didn't contain anything I didn't know already.

To be honest I don't know what I did to get it working. Only thing now is that the laptop can see the printer but the can't print anything.
