This may be a silly or strange question but if I was able to get 8MB Broadband in my area would I need to change my 3comm OfficeConnect wireless adsl router ??

I am just wondering because you can now get ADSL2 routers

Would help if you posted the model number of the router.

The first link is the 3Com offical site detailing the spec.s etc of your modem router:

This second link is to a retailer selling the same router(in a bundle):

from these two link I have determind that your modem router does support ASDL2 and up to 8Mbps download speed ASDL connection though you may need to update the firmware.
