I have Win98SE partially installed....I think!

I have also tried to instal a "BLINK" camera and found driver files and others missing, hence the "partially" bit.

As I seem to need a FULL copy of Win98SE to complete this task, it occurs to me that it would be an ideal time to research upgrading, as I hear a rumour that Microsoft are ceasing suport for said OS.

My problem is, as I still only run an AMD K6/2 450 machine, XP is out of the question. SO, is it worth the hassle and expense of changing OS? Is 98SE the best match for machine and is there a reliable alternative?

PS....I am very happy with 98SE ....SO FAR!

Well, you MIGHT get XP to run - a friend of mine is running it happily on an AMD K6/2 500, but it might need some extra RAM, and check your HDD capacity - XP takes 1.5 Gb to install.

We've got Win2000 running quite happily on our AMD K6-2 500 boxes, and have had success on 450MHz versions. So, as long as you've got at least 128MB of RAM, you'll be OK with it.

I wouldnt go for installing XP on a system with only a 450. Wiv a cpu that spec u might have a lot of problems with windows xp not getting on wiv ur hardware. Plus u need a minimum of 128MB 2 run it successfully.

I dont agree with winME, if you want to stay in the microsoft section, id go get myself a new copy of win98SE, becareful tho coz there's a lot of ppl still selling it at quite a price. considering its several years old.

I am still trying to work out the partially installed scenario of your posting, please explain.

What driver files etc. are missing.

You could always pop in your 98se CD-Rom ==> Setup ==> Repair your existing installation; alternatively Start ==> Run and type SFC, this will check your system files and promt you for the location of all missing or corrupted files.

If during the Blink driver installation, a non-installed Windows file is required, you should also be prompted for its location. (usually the CAB files on your Hard Disk or the CD-Rom in either case.

See if this helps, if not, try reposting in the Technical Help Forum with some more detailled information.
