I have 2 HD's on my system, labled Local Disk (c andthe slave as DISK2_VOL1(D).
Because of a massive stop error my xp home edition could not repair the original os on "c" and I had to install again on the slave drive in order that I could get the machine up and running. I then reinstalled xp home on drive c but would like to change the drives around as the original is 13gb and the slave is 40gb.
I have changed the hardware around and the m/b and bios now sees the drives as 40gb master on ied0 and the 13gb as slave on ied1, the trouble is,I now have a dual boot system and
1 if I disconnect the slave the os won't load.
2 Is this because the drive letters are the originals and if so can I change them with no problems.
3 I transferred most of my programmes and folders to the original slave drive (DISK2_VOL(D) and wish to leave them there as I want this to be the main drive.
4 My system boots with the original slave drive as master ,is it safe to remove the windows system loaded on the C drive, or are they linked in some way because of the original set up?
How do I go about this, as I don't want to go through the same trauma again.
OH I stupidly didn't back up my system before using a spyware removal program, selected all that it found deleted them no problem, until I tried to start the computer, which is when the stop error happened(I know I know I promise I have learned my lesson)
Hope someone can give me a simple solution to a very long post
Dave

there might be a more simple solution but the way I would do it is transfere all the info I wanted to keep onto the drive I wanted as slave. Remove slave. Reformat and reinstall on master. Install slave. Move info to master. Format Slave.
