Sorry if this is a bit of a repetition of the thread below. My year old KG7 is running fine at the moment with a 1.13 GHz Athlon and 512Mb of PC2100 DDR RAM, all on standard settings. However, I will probably want to do an upgrade a bit further down the road to get the most out of the existing kit, and as the KG7 was/is supposed to be an o/c friendly motherboard, could it actually be persuaded to run a stable 166 FSB for a Barton core Athlon? Likewise, is there any way that this board could be tricked into running 333 instead of 266 DDR RAM?
No urgency yet, but if it protects my investment(!) for a bit longer I'd be interested...

If you got KT333 chipset onwards then you should be ok with 333Mhz - dont think the KT266(A) will support it.
Most boards are meant to be overclock friendly, but to be successful you need to following:-
Good PSU - 350W+ is best
Good range of mobo FSB dividers for PCI/AGP, etc - so that things can be kept in sync when FSB increase. IF not then one of these could stop you.
Good range of volatges for AGP/Memory, etc - if they can be set separately then you are in business
Possibly extra cooling for memory/CPU - fins for memory and/or air vents in case for CPU
Good CPU cooler
To find out how well your board can o/c unplug all unnecessary devices and try upping the FSB in 1Mhz increments - most boards with KT266(A) could go no higher than 150MHZ

This one's a bit before KT333, 266A or 266! It's got a hybrid AMD/VIA chipset. More research needed...

Read The Flippin' Manual (the intro anyway), it's definitely an AMD-761/VIA VT82C686B combo as it's a fairly early DDR RAM board. My apologies for this outburst of industrial archeology...

i don't think that AMD 761 will support 166Mhz FSB and will probably get no higher than 150Mhz FSB - and thats probably with some extreme voltage & divider tweaking and possibly extra cooling.
From what i gather the 333FSB Athlons are generally disappointing with Via Chipsets. AMD have yet to release a chipset for this FSB (i think!).
The only chipset to really take hold of the new Athlon and squeeze out more power are Nvidias Nforce2 - which showed 10-30% improvment over the same 333Mhz CPU in different boards!!

I think Nvidia are AMD in disguise!
'Apparently' Nvidia have started releasing the chips for mainstream production, so we could expect boards to emerge soon after October
