Have you given the printer a static I.P. address?

Intel e7200 @ 4.0GHz (4.32GHz SuperPi(e)) Lapped
Asus P5E-VM (Vdroop pencil modded)
4Gb Patriot Pc6400 4-4-4-12
250Gb Samsung Spinpoint
Sapphire ATI 3870/Akasa Vortexx Neo
Enermax 600 Watt PSU
Ubuntu/Win XP
All in a Thermaltake Handbag...
Or flying @ 4.21GHz in the Stacker.

Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!

Download Netstumbler (its free), it will tell you what the signal strengths are, and just importantly what the noise is.
Noise cancels out signal, so you want a good SNR - Signal to Noise Ratio.

It will also tell you of any nearby wireless AP and what channel they are on.
You want to be at least 4 channels away from them or they might interfere.

Try different channels and see what gives you the best SNR.

In reply to the printer question. If you printer is connected to a pc you dont need a static IP address, this is only if it is a network printer.

You just need to share the printer on the computer it is attached too.
