I was saddened to read that Amiga Mart is to end in issue 1,000. While I appreciate that, given the shambles that is the Amiga market at the moment and given the niche nature of that market, it must be hard for Sven to find things to write about week after week, I think Micro Mart will suffer if Sven's contibutions disappear altogether.

Would it not be possible to rebrand Sven's section as Alternative Mart (or something snappier), a section that looks not only at Amigas but other platforms, too? Platforms such as the Atari ST, and maybe some really retro systems (not the games machines covered by Retro Mart). I guess it depends on Sven and his wider knowledge.

Just a thought.

Saddening but plenty of dedicated Amiga websites exist, and perhaps if the Amiga takes off again one day, Amiga Mart will return.

As I recall, it was only a threat, it doesn't mean he has to carry it out ;-)

Personally, I think Sven should concentrate on reviewing the latest apps/utilities/games that appear for Amiga OS4.

Whilst there aren't many commercial offerings, (although, there are some, DVPlayer, Fryingpan, Hollywood, etc) there are plenty of ports/original ideas to keep him going for months on end over at OS4Depot. Add that, and the never ending titbit of news on how Amiga inc, (now apparently called Amino Developments once more) appear to be constantly shooting themselves in the foot in trying to aquire the IP/Source code back from Hyperion Entertainment who developed OS4.

Honest, you couldn't make it up!

To purchase the mag as often as possible and to read articles on the Amiga platform I found interesting and educating.

To only have part time web access, plenty of Amiga websites is not always an advantage over reading it in the magazine.

It would be a sad loss

Amiga i think is worth keeping in the magazine. i've really enjoyed reading about what should have been. Its interesting to read about a company taking a different perspective on technology and what they have come up with also without micromart i would never have known.

I can't say I've got a huge amount of interest in the Amiga myself, but it would be a shame to lose all Amiga coverage. I think the "Alternative Mart" idea isn't a bad one. Along with the Atari ST there's Acorn RISC OS, with interesting new hardware and software still being released for that platform. There's even a Sinclair QL scene still going strong.

Along with those hardware platforms, that section of the mag could bring up alternative operating systems. After all, Linux has had a huge amount of coverage, with pretty obscure distributions being discussed. Of course it's by far the most popular alternative OS, but there are others out there with interesting features and a lot of potential. For example Haiku, the open source successor to BeOS, or SkyOS, a full desktop OS with some interesting features. The amazing thing about SkyOS is that it's created almost single-handedly by one programmer (Robert Szeleney) in his spare time. Puts my occasional bit of dabbling in programming into perspective...

There's plenty of interesting content out there to fill a page every week.
