It would seem that having AOL as my ISP is going to restrict my options of routers, if anyone has one of the following routers, or has seen one available would you send me a pm?
* BT Voyager 2091 ADSL2+ Wireless Modem Router
* SPEEDTOUCH 576 Wireless Router
* TP LINK TD-W8910G WIRELESS LAN MODEM ROUTER
* NETGEAR WIRELESS MODEM/ROUTER DG834G
Many thanks.

I've closed the previous thread http://forum.micromart.co.uk/Topic257844-33-1.aspx as things will get confusing.
I've added Basil's network diagram to this post.
The Thomson Speedtouch 576 only has a single ethernet port, so you'll need a switch for the wired PCs.
Puzbie http://tinyurl.com/3y4bma have refurbed units sold as an AOL pack for £19.99.
I have a 5 port switch you can have for p&p.
They also have the BT Voyager 2091 Unlocked for £21.99, and that also only has a single ethernet port.
Also the Netgear DG834G for £29.99 and that does include a 4 port switch.
I have never heard of the TP LINK TD-W8910G.
The specs http://tinyurl.com/2sempo look OK on paper.
Aria have it for £30.49 Quickcode: #28139

Thanks very much Dave, I wasn't aware that AOL has compatibility problems with modem routers until I read the stickied thread and I found a list of compatible routers and hoped that someone might have one unused.
The main problem I have with the AOL packs is that I don't need the line filters or cables, I have that from my wired modem and an loathe to pay for it again.
I spotted this BT Voyager 2500V Wireless Router Modem Firewall
http://tinyurl.com/399yr2
It caught my eye as it has all the ports I need in one unit and a USB port (could an external hard-drive be connected on to this?).
Thanks!

Well the 2500V isn't on your AOL list, so if you're straying off of it I'd still recommend the Buffalo.
The USB port is for a network connection only, you can't use it for peripherals.
As far as I am aware, any ethernet router will work with AOL, it's just that you're on your own for support purposes.

| I use a Speedtouch 510 with AOL. Works perfectly, however you have to install AOL CD using the modem that came with it. Once you set the router up AOL 9 will find it. Or don't use the AOL software or use AOL9VR. This works on the router, but tends to only give you the option for the master screen name. Once on the Net with AOL you can change screen names. If you were to use AOL9VR on Vista then it gives you the option of screen names at start up. http://help.aol.co.uk/upgrade-to-aol-90/article/20070119120009990017 Edit: Another thing to remember, if you are on the net using AOL software on rig 1 (screen name) Fred, on the other rig if you use AOL software on screen name Fred it will throw rig 1 off the net, you will have to use a seperate screen name to connect rig 2 ie Fred2. You can use any of your screen names in the router config as long as it is a user name within AOL, ie my router is set to johnbarry my master screen name is something else. Or you can forget AOL software and just use IE FF Opera, I have no AOL software on rig 2 and just use IE. wehen I get round to it I will install AOL9 VR (can't be bothered with AOL9 as it needs the modem that came with it) when setting it up AOL9 VR I will use another screen name, so I don't get booted off the screen name I am using on rig1.

ricedg (18/01/2008) Well the 2500V isn't on your AOL list, so if you're straying off of it I'd still recommend the Buffalo.
The USB port is for a network connection only, you can't use it for peripherals.
As far as I am aware, any ethernet router will work with AOL, it's just that you're on your own for support purposes.
I mentioned it because it is on the same website as the others and "Pre-configured to work on UK ADSL lines, including AOL" according to the description.
Currently I would buy either the Netgear or the BT 2500V, both are the same price but the BT 2500V has a USB connection should I ever need it. What do you guys think?
It would seem that AOL just don't offer any support for wifi and will only provide a silver customer with a single screen name but as the router is sharing that connection any router should work.
@ John I never used the install CD or the router that came with my package.
