I recently built a media-centre PC, using an ASUS P5E-V HDMI motherboard, Intel E6750 cpu, 4Gb Corsair XMS2 800MHz RAM and two WD 500Gb SATA HDDs. I installed Vista 32 Home Premium while I waited for the 64-bit disk to come from Microsoft and got on pretty well. As my wireless part of my modem/router died, I had bought a D-Link DKT-410 kit and the DWA-140 USB adapter worked like a dream - until Vista 64 arrived and I found there's no driver for it. I then bought an EdimaxEW-7728ln PCI adapter as that was supposed to work with Vista 64.
To be fair, it does work but not as it should. It connects to the router but won't connect any further, the system telling me that only local access is possible. I can't access the router or modem using their dotted quad addresses, either. I'm stumped. All the software's been fully updated, btw. Anyone have any ideas?

Check the output of ipconfig /all

| Thanks for the suggestion, Chazzy, but I managed to fix it. I forgot to say in my first post that I'd set the machine up connected to my cable network so any updates I installed had come before I tried to set the machine up wirelessly. The first thing I did was uninstall the software and reinstall it after a reboot. The link worked fine. Vista then told me I had three optional updates, one of which was a new Railink driver for the card. When I installed that, I was back to being restricted to 'Local'. To confirm this was the problem, I rolled back the driver - causing a total lock-up - but the link was completely restored to health after I restarted my computer. I don't think I've ever had an update go wrong on me before, right from when Windows Update began. I'm just pleased that it's sorted and I can go ahead with my setting up of Vista 64. Aarrgghh! Computers! Who'd 'ave 'em? Thanks again, Keith
