I seem to see lots about software RAID in mags and forums, but I am trying to find out about hardware RAID - costs, what to look for and how to configure and install it into some kind of NAS system.

As a photographer, backing up large (+-12GB) files, I need fast, secure back up which won't cost me a fortune - £100 to £200 for a controller rather than the thousands a professional setup.

How about a feature covering the bases?

Great mag, carry on the good work - MP rules (and Jason, of course).

Why do gorillas have big nostrils?
Because they have big fingers.

A proper RAID card is usually north of £250...the ones less than that are usually just software controllers like the ones that are onboard most systems.
It would be interesting to see if the hardware cards really offer more performance, and not just more expense.

depends on the raid you go for, mirrored is no better, spanned again no different striped does offer a increase of sorts but in a normal pc you proberbly wouldnt really notice any difference.

Surely though if you have a understanding of software raid then its no different to hardware raid except you configure it differently.
