I thought you generally used saws and other cutting instruments?

Or maybe something a bit blunt

(Same goes for women wanting to get inside a man's head!!)

There's a maximum of 4 women on this forum (Well, active women. Wait. That sounds wrong)

Tis true, lately, a lot of reviews seem to target products that nobody will use in the next 12 months, at least.

Personally, I tend to buy mobos and processors of an older vintage, simply because they are perfectly usable and a lot cheaper.

Over-clocking is something I will never understand really, likewise Games and sites like Facebook.

(before anyone Flames me, this is my PERSONAL taste, not a criticism of others)

The mag is less interesting lately, simply because of repetition. How many "build your own PC" articles can we stand?-It's not that difficult after all, assembling an IKEA wardobe can be more taxing.,

And the letters page has recently been host to some of the most uninformed and downright stupid letters I have seen in a long time.
Maybe somebody thinks that stupid letters about Linux, for example, will instigate debate,Trouble is they are so pathetic that they only stimulate disgust.
This forum hosts far more erudite postings than MM most of the time.

To be honest, I agree with wyliecoyote...

And anyone who's spoken to me about the mag recently will know my subscription isn't likely to be continued due to such "problems"

Firstly, Take a Break beats Woman's Weekly.

Some interesting points here, so I'll try and cover them all:

* The influx of motherboard/graphics cards/build features is down to demand and request. Simply, when we cover those, the magazine sells more. When we don't, we get complaints! That said, we always try and put together 8-9 features a week in the magazine (a huge amount for any magazine, to be fair) to make sure there's enough variety to give everyone something they'll enjoy. That way, we can cover the areas that work well for magazine sales, while also digging into the unusual and more leftfield stuff that Micro Mart has done for most of its duration. After all, where else would you have seen a group test of sub-£35 graphics cards? I haven't seen one of those for a long time, and things like that are very much on our radar.

The problem with upping the editorial count and number of features, I've found, is that people remember - and again, correct me if I'm wrong - what they don't like. So, for argument's sake, when we had 70 editorial pages in total, we tended to get a better response if there were 55 pages people liked, rather than if there were 70 out of 100, for roughly the same price. Is that fair? I only offer this up as a conversation point, as I'm curious if people would prefer a more concentrated coverage on a smaller number of topics across fewer pages, or using the added editorial page count to broaden the things we talk about? It's a fascinating dilemma, and one that regular exercises my head! I'm lucky that we have a forum that's full of constructive criticism and thoughts, so thought I would throw this over to you

* The letters page we rarely interfere with, and I think that's right and proper. As a result, the content fluctuates, but I'd hate to have a letters page that's as controlled and dictated as I've seen in other publications. What are your thoughts on this? Should we be holding back on letting people have their say in print? My personal preference is for 'raw' letters pages, but it's a debate that perhaps needs to be had.

* Point taken on the motherboard cover. Fair enough. I will say that our reviews do balance - to the point where we award scores for each - both value and quality. The £56 board in question got a good review, after all, even if it didn't win the test.

* Our group tests are generally dictated by what we can find out there to buy (and also, a little by what companies will send - which is why we've been buying some of the kit for our tests over the past few months, to even them out). Budget items *do* get a fair shot, and I do think that in a test of expensive products, it's right to see how a lower price item compares. Usually, even though it doesn't win, it strikes a few points in its favour, and the text of the review covers how it compares.

Please keep the feedback coming. It's all appreciated and digested!

Simon
