| Thanks for the reply The letters page I think has to be left as is there is a wide spectrum of knowledge out there from someone who just took the side pannel off yesterday to people who want to discuss the more technical stuff, so a broad coverage that swings to both ends of that scal ehas to be excepted. On the point about the size of the mag as far as content quality/depth vs quantity. Well my feeling is that more detail would be welcome. Take the media centre build, about halfway through the article starts freely admitting that stuff is being skipped as teh writer is running out of alloted word count, this cant be right, can it ? Personally i would have rather seen an indepth article spread over more issues than trying to fit it in in one. Maybe thats the answer to your Quality/depth of content vs quantity dilema. People have to be realistic I think and realise that its the nature of a publication like yours that they will come across content that does not interest/concern them. On the whole I find an at least passing interest in the majority of articles and as i said dont expect to be engrosed from front to back every week. The only reason i posted was because i specifically picked the mag up for the MOBO review and felt a bit dissapointed when it was such a narrow review. Thanks again Micromac

| There was a very good letter about OS's recently, putting forward the point that poeple in general who don't know their way around a PC cannot reasonably be expected to find and update all sorts of things in order to get a system running properly. That is one area where Apple has absolutely excelled, and the much bandied about and totally over used phrase "it just works" really does apply! Linux, I have been reading more about with the intention of imminently jumping in, and I am still alittle uncertain about using command line instructions for it. Is there a graphical interface installer that explains simply and easily what you need, where/how to get it, and install it and get things running? The article in this weeks mag about setting up a PC for the kids springs to mind, with the boxout on getting the BBC childrens games to work properly. I would be happy to follow instruction to do so, as written in the bag, but I have been using PC's for years, and have recently built my own. What about your average Joe who has done none of this? Still too complicated. And as for Vista... *meh*

I can understand the need for several motherboard reviews, as there are 2 main processor platforms, and just covering cheap and with knobs on produces 4 sets of reviews.
One thing that strikes me is that MM has a problem, shared with other Computer Magazines at the moment, in that the PC user base is fragmenting more in respect of operating systems.
When WindowsXP was at the 14 month post launch phase most magazines were full of XP howtos, Vista's more sluggish uptake means that just isn't happening yet.
PC Users are looking in other directions, the number of XP 'upgrades' to make XP look and feel like Vista is growing.
Luckily MM has increased its editorial.
May be its time to take a poll of MMs readership in order to gauge content needs?
Just one Gripe, there's seldom if ever any mention in hardware reviews as to whether the kit works with Linux, so I'm continually left with the feeling it only works with WindowsXP or maybe Vista, then again maybe not.
