Made me feel quite sad, and a bit frustrated.

I thinks after all the years of mess ups the only way to preserve the Amiga in a modern form is to make an open source Amiga os for the pc. That way it’s looked after by those who care about it. Blasphemous I know but survival depends on adaptability and radical ideas. More to the point it brings it to a wider audience.

harder,faster bet....er drat!

To Maticus2

There is, it's called AROS (http://aros.sourceforge.net/) originally (back in 1995-6) it was going to be a reverse engineered AmigaOS 3.1.  But patent problems with Amino and other "IP holders" prevented it from going all the way on that front (at least publicly, there were always rumours that they'd sorted it and just couldn't publish for fears of legal action).

Now, it's a FOSS operating system that's 100% AmigaOS compatible *at the API level*, which means that only software that "plays nice" (i.e. not demo's or games or anything that "hits the metal") will work on it.

iirc, Hyperion were expressing interest in it a few years ago (2002, ish - about when I lost contact).

Hope the info helps
