i am sorry for asking this here but realised that i shouldn't have entered it in the technical.

anyway.  i just got a laptop with wireless running win2000 and assumed that it would just access the interent by going through the router.  i used the wlan utility on the desktop and it found my router and connected. at first it connected to the msn homepage but now it wont even access that.  i didn't think i needed to set up another internet connection as it is using the same one as my existing pc which is running xp and is connected to the router by wired connection.

the laptop in question is an old one, a thinkpad 600e.

Double check that the wlan utility has saved the encryption key (WEP or WPA).

cheers dave.  i went into the wlan utility and deleted it and then re-did it and it worked. i have yet to see if it works again when i turn it back on but will then know that it musn't be saving it.

any ideas on the floppy file to cd question in technical?
